Quality!
I bought the medium size which is about 14” in diameter and it works perfect! I used it the first time the other day and have to say it’s the best sushi rice I’ve ever made! A good quality hangiri really makes a difference if you are serious about sushi. Just make sure to watch some videos on how to add/mix the vinegar seasoning to the rice in the hangiri. Also, you will need to season the hangiri overnight before your first use. When you are ready to use, just get a wet, clean scent-free towel to wipe the insides real well before you add the rice. Some people say you need to soak it 30 min before use, but I watched a lot of videos with sushi chefs that just wiped it down first and this works perfect. When the rice has been mixed with the vinegar seasoning, cover with a damp cloth while using. When you are done, clean the hangiri by rinsing under warm water. If rice is stuck, just soak it a little first. Do not use any soap/detergent. Then let it air dry away from direct sunlight as this could crack the hangiri. Once it’s dried, I keep mine in the plastic bag it came shipped in until next use. This is expensive, but is worth the price as it’s top quality and will really take your sushi rice to the next level!!!

Excellent craftsmanship, high-quality materials, great value.
I purchased the 13-inch diameter wooden hangiri sushi rice tub, perfect for making sushi rice for one or two people, which is all I need for my home use.Made of Sawara cypress and two metal (copper?) bands, not plastic bands, this tub is beautiful. The craftsmanship is impressive. The wooden staves and metal hoops are perfectly fitted. I expect that it will last a lifetime.I have been looking for an affordable (for me), quality, Japanese-made cypress hangiri for a while. I was happy to pay just under $100 for this bowl—what a great value.

A Must Have for the kitchen
This hangiri is very well made and should last a lifetime. It would be very nice if the manufacturer would include seasoning and care instructions for those who may be new to making sushi. It is important to season with water and rice wine vinegar prior to use and to clean immediately after use to prevent the rice from hardening and sticking to the wood. Proper care and this bowl will not need replacement.

Beautiful to look at and more importantly, works perfectly for mixing sushi rice.
Best investment made for making sushi besides rice pot. We are a college program that does a lot of food events and have started making sushi so we need to make at a minimum 10 - 15 cups (tried making 20, but better/easier to do 2 pots of 10).This oke makes it so much easier to cool the rice down as we mix in the su. The rice doesn't stick and it's easy to clean up. The craftsmanship is beautiful as the wood and ring fit perfectly. Received it quickly and was packed very well.

Nice Hangiri. Wish the copper bands did not come off so easily.
Nice Hangiri. The copper bands came off easily and got damaged, which was disappointing. But it is a nice tool.

nice wooden hangiri
I already have one from my Mother but in order to speed to cooking process, I needed another one. In making sushi, the cooling process is time consuming so by having two hangiris, I can go faster. Good quality.

Yes, this is quite expensive but it is of high quality, made in Japan and with good material. No complaints.
