Using a stopwatch and seeing your lap time only after you finished your session is not as effective as having an onboard lap timer, since you can immediately see your improvements. Also, when you don't have someone to help you take your lap times, then this is a super convenient tool! The beacon or sending unit sends an invisible infrared beam across the track, and triggers your lap time on the receiver each time you pass the beacon. Your lap time will be shown on the display screen each time you pass. After your session, it will also store your latest laps in memory (max. 64 laps), so you can review your lap times for the session. The beacon uses easy to find AA batteries (not included) (lasts approximately 3 hours, can use rechargeable batteries) , and the receiver uses a common watch battery (included) (lasts approximately 50 hours), also easily available. The receiver is also compatible with other manufacturers beacons, such as AIM, or XT, so if there is already one of these beacons on the track, you don't need to use the supplied beacon. If there are multiple beacons on the track, after you pass the first one, it will block off viewing others for 10 seconds, to make sure you don't get false lap times. Easy installation, the display can be mounted with supplied Velcro to your steering wheel, or top triple clamp. The receiver beacon can be mounted anywhere it can get a clear view to the beacon on the side of the track.
