Nice concise book, overall good excersises and helpful grammar. However, with the writing tasks the book gives so much help that it may be hard to do a similar task on the exam without hints/help. Of course you can skip some of this and go straight to the task. I haven't come accross an overview of the main points to focus on for the different writing tasks, which would actually be useful. As the other review says, as well as a book, you do need a teacher and class mates, especially if you prepare in a country outside of the UK and have otherwise very little speaking practice. Ideas for speaking topics are provided at the back of the book. (The 'normal' CPE Gold book gives more topics. That is, if you are serious enough to use the ideas given and work on acquiring vocab and grammar you know you are trying to talk arround.) This exam maximiser is straight to the point and pays attention to exactly those language issues people at this particular level need to work on. I ended up buying both books and if I had more time would use them next to each other. (Un)fortunately, I seem don't have time to do everything that perfectly...
