Honeywell Home RTH2300B1038 5-2 Day Programmable Thermostat, White

Bought this to replace my super basic apt thermostat because I was tired of constantly adjusting the temperature based on the time of day. I like to keep it low at night but crank it up a bit during the day to help save some money, but still keep it reasonable for my pup. Even though this is another fairly basic thermostat, I have found the features to be great so far. Was actually surprisingly easy to install and that you can change the temp based on 4 different times of the week day and the weekend separately. Just make sure to be careful and take pictures and or mark the wires on the old thermostat to make sure you wire it correctly. Yes, most wires will correspond to the correct label but you never know for sure. Alot of cheap a$$ landlords out there. Speaking of which, I called them to have the maintenance come out and install it for me since they said it was something they would do when signing the lease and even the day of but then maintenance calls back and says oh we dont do that because if something goes wrong you would be liable and we can't fix the A/C. I was like wtf that doesn't even make sense and just said fine I'll do it myself. Never installed one of these before and only okay at handy work but found this to be a simple and very awesome upgrade so far. Make sure to cut the power! Also, be careful and don't bend the wires back and forth, they will heat up and break off. Be gentle with the wires and take your time. Don't screw them down until you have everything inserted and leave some slack in the line so it doesn't go back into the wall where you can't get to it. Don't mount to the wall until you check to make sure it works. If you have someone else I would recommend having them hold the unit up while you turn on the power to the A/C or very gently hanging it off the wires(just know it could fall off) and then when your sure that everything works you could mount it. Look up a video on YouTube or read the instructions if your not sure. It's really simple and easy to install. Highly recommend this so far and will update again to make sure the temps and settings hold correctly. :)

Super easy to install and a great price. Two screws and anchors included. Just don't over tighten the screws on the backplate when installing into the wall or you may loosen the wall anchors :) Now I can at least control heat in multiple zones for day/night. Since I've only got 2 wires at all mercury thermostats, simply removing the jumper and connecting red & white wires was a breeze. Installed 3 more of these where old mercury style thermostats could only be set for one temp 24/7... It's so nice waking up to a 70 degree bedroom as opposed to 63: the temp my wife likes to sleep at - ugh! Setting up the day/night temp setting is also very easy, albeit a tad tedious :) I've had one of these in the house for over a year and still working fine. I even use rechargeable batteries in these, which don't last as long but taking the cover off is also super easy and I don't lose my settings. Sadly, the previous owner of my home had no forsight and only ran two wire cable throughout the house to all thermostats... Hence no smart home thermostats for me. I'm not interested in adding a bunch of c-wire kits on multiple zones in the house. Plus, I only have heat, A/C during the summer is wall and window units as needed :)

Easy install, clear instructions. works fine

I installed one in an out building with sensitive electronics that must be in a climate controlled environment but can go a couple of days without human presence. I'm in Florida and the heat and humidity are PUNISHING. I like it at 78 when I'm in there but 85 if fine when I'm not. I can leave without worries I remembered to adjust the thermostat. It automatically switches to 85 at 1 pm. You can program multiple temperatures multiple times of day, you can even program a weekend schedule and weekday schedule. Set it and forget it.

This is a very basic no thrills thermostat for a great price from a reputable company. My old one just stopped working mid winter and I found this with fast shipping. Whats great is it’s the exact same bracket as my previous model which is just like this but without the light up screen. Even the directions show the old model. With that one I always was using my phone flashlight so this is a nice upgrade. They’re otherwise almost identical. Yes, the screen has the weird marks on it but it doesn’t bother me. I’m just happy to be able to see it in the dark. The schedule is a cool feature. I don’t know if there’s an option to use less times for it though. Might be nice. Would I love mobile features. Yes. But at this price I wouldn’t expect it and at least I was able to avoid any drilling. Was able to install in 30 seconds because of it.

Just bought a second one to replace some Honeywell "professional" thermostats I installed seven years ago. By comparison, these are very easy to install and set up. Installation was under 5 minutes and getting wires into the jumper blocks may have been the hardest part. Definitely recommend a small jeweler type flat head screwdriver. As others have found, holding the thermostat during installation will increase the display temperature because your hand is heating up the thermostat. It took about 5-10 minutes for the temp to adjust to ambient temperature after installation. One reviewer recommended opening the thermostat from each corner to install batteries and this is an awesome tip. The cover is very tight if you try to open it from the middle by the finger indent, however, opening the corners works perfectly. Programming was incredibly easy - set your wake, leave, return, and sleep times/temps for the weekdays and weekend, and for heating and cooling. Hold and run buttons are self-explanatory. The only weird thing that all other reviewers have noticed is the smudge at the lower right of the display. However, it's a thermostat, not a work of art. I can live with this. Will update if there are any issues but out of the box, these are already better than the "professional" models I first bought. Lastly, my state has an energy rebate program and 5-2 programmable thermostats receive rebates up to $25/each. So far, these have cost me nothing!!

DON'T BUY IT!!! It worked, kind of, for a very short time, then the screen started going dark, little by little. I called the number in the manual since it was 7 months since purchase. The representative was among the worst I have ever experienced. Impertinent, talked over me so I could not explain, and was very difficult to understand because she has an accent and refused to slow down. (I myself have an accent, so no, I hold no grudge against people with accents.) Then she told me that I would need to take four different photos of the thermostat, including one attached to a "boltage" meter. I don't know about you, but I don't have one and I don't know anyone who does. It's not a screwdriver, for goodness sake. That effectively meant they had no intention of accepting the return for a replacement. She started going on, reading a URL out loud, at the speed of reciting the alphabet. Truly making no effort to be helpful. The thermostat is very basic. It cools and heats one degree above or below what you set it to, which I have never encountered before. The installation was fairly easy, but who cares when the screen is almost black??? SHAMEFUL customer service. Don't buy unless you don't care if the warranty is worthless. Never again.

I found out to my cost that this unit will not switch 240v. This means, if you're trying to make your roomstat more intelligent, this is not the one for you. Thank you Amazon for a stress free return and refund.

Easy to install if you are replacing the same type of thermostat. A little more difficult to figure out which colour wires to install if you had a more complicated thermostat to begin with and you are down grading. This one is easy to program and operate, very basic and much easier to understand for all people in the household.
