Amazing movie
I'm a big fan of foreign films especially Korean and Chinese films I saw the trailer of Ichi it looked good so I bought it and I'm glad I Did Ichi exceeded my expectations the movie takes place in feudal Japan and follows a blind woman Ichi who's very adept with musical instruments as well as a sword she is looking for the blind swordsman who trained her along the way she comes across a village being harassed by a brutal warlord and his gang and gets dragged into the conflict there lots of great and gory battle scenes many men think Ichi is easy prey big mistake on their part the acting cinematography soundtrack and storyline are all great the main actress who plays Ichi was AMAZING Truly a great performance the ending is very emotional and a little sad but is still a good positive happy endingI got the blu Ray version the picture and audio quality are amazing and the blu Ray includes both English dub and the original japanese with English subtitles I highly recommend watching it with the original Japanese with English subtitles dubbing really sucks and lowers the quality of the film don't get upset about the subtitles once you get into the movie you won't even realize your reading themOverall Ichi is an amazing movie with quality acting and storyline Foreign films are easily destroying Hollywood these days especially Asian cinemaHighly recommended

English-dubbed, with no option to watch in original language with English subtitles
Amazon why are you ruining this movie with English dubbing!! Netflix allows me to watch foreign language movies in the original language with English subtitles. So it can't be that hard to do. Orig language is so much less jarring than trying to watch horrible English dubbing. Please have mercy.

Zato-she-chi
A quick review of the film, then why the DVD over a blu:This is more or less a Zatoichi chanbara- with the part of Ichi played by a female lead. She definitely kills it (no pun), very well acted, and excellent with action/swordplay scenes. The film itself is very well done: well shot, beautifully choreographed fight scenes, nicely done FX work (it’s quite bloody), a pleasure to watch. The story is pretty good too, though mind you: it’s a Zatoichi film. If this is something you’re familiar with, then you know: girl wanders into town, confronted by baddies, kills them all, intro new characters, intro baddie boss, scene in the gambling house using blind superpowers, makes a friend, fights, defeat by baddie, reflection and hit rock bottom, friend in trouble and to the rescue, baddie showdown...in the end she wanders off...this is basically an outline for every Zatoichi film, so if you haven’t seen it will be new, and if you have, its an interesting take and the swordplay is quite good, and she is slso searching for Zatoichi, who knows, she may just find him...?Just keep this in mind: Shintaro Katsu was a seriously charismatic and enigmatic actor. He played the role for many years, so he really slipped into that skin flawlessly. Even though a lot of Z films can follow a formula (above), he always made it like a different film every time. The thing is this: even though he was a Yakuza, and did vicious and terrible things, and lived a life that was bloody and painful...bit he could always do something to make you smile. He had a lot of personality that could really make you feel for the character.Ichi is NOT Zatoichi. She is a good actress as said, and she’s emotional and powerful and you do feel for her, but she is serious as a heart attack. The whole film is really. Don’t expect her to fall into a hole in the road and a group of kids to laugh as she gets a ‘wah wah’ face (ala Z)...she does business and takes names. Still, a very good film. I liked it a lot.Why DVD over blu? I just wanted to see it. A rental was still like 20 bucks, and a blu was like 60. If the price gets more in control, i’d get a blu- rereleased maybe. Fingers crossed and eyes open.

but I read in other reviews that it was in Japanese with English subtitles like the Zatoichi movies
Okay, this movie I've wanted for a long time, but I read in other reviews that it was in Japanese with English subtitles like the Zatoichi movies, which isn't the case if you get this via Amazon Video. Amazon Video version is in English thankfully. At first it took a bit to follow the story as I'm new to Zatoichi series, and Ichi didn't just come out and say she was looking for him. It took some time to get into the story, but once in, you're a bit addicted to it until the end. The story does not have Zatoichi in it, other than a few cameo flashbacks, so if you looking to see him in an old age form, sorry. And not spoiling the rest of it, but the sword fighting is interesting at times if all be it quick... A few slashes here and there and someone downed. The characters have a lot of time in the movie to develop, which is helpful to make the story immersive. However, the villain didn't seem to be developed that well. I may need to watch other Zatoichi based movies to understand him some, but it was just like he was thrown in as an after though near the three quarters the way through the movie mark.So if you're a fan of Zatoichi, you might like this movie. If you a fan of movies based around blind characters (even if they aren't), then this maybe also for you. And if you like sword fighting movies with quick swords play, then this is for you too. However, if you the old school kung fu movie type fan that love lots of choreography, you won't find it in here.

For "Zatoichi" fans
It was very well acted, but very gory. Of course, that is the style of film, so I expected that going into it. It is nice to see a 3-dimensional blind character, who kicks butts and takes names, even if the premise is largely implausible. If you like the "Zatoichi" films, you'll probably like this. On a final note, I love the cheesy aspects of the film. They're delightful.

Excellent for the Genre
Enjoyed this immensely. I really liked the tie in to Zatoichi who, if you don't know, is like the Japanese equivalent of the Lone Ranger (only with a sense of humor). Not cerebral or high art but a really good entry into the Jedi Gekki universe. She is gorgeous besides.

Good News.
I am a sucker for foreign films. The acting is good, the story line gives you a taste of their history and values. But at these cheap prices I could never have refused the deal. Good service. Good deal. Good film. Damned good price. Will certainly buy from these guys again. Thank you for your speedy service, and excellent price.

Ichi the singing, slicing and dicing minstrel...
Having never seen any of the other "Zatoichi" films I came to this movie without any preconceptions, I sat down to watch this movie without any idea what to expect, from what I can gather the hero is normally male, in this version of the story the main character is female and very easy on the eye.The action is set during the Edo period in Japan; it recreates the feel of the time with a great deal of ease looking very authentic to my eyes and at the same time looking very elegant. The part of the story I liked was how the male lead that can't draw his sword and is saved by Ichi and because of this event he is hired by the local Yakuza, to protect their village from the bandits preying on them and the townsfolk. This movie is in Japanese with 5.1 surround sound with English subtitles that you don't have to put on.The action is pretty intense, gory and very stylish this title must have just barely got its "15" classification with that said all the violence doesn't feel like it was done just for effect but is needed for the plot, I found this film very entertaining and enjoyable...

its good
if you have ever heard of zatoichi, ichi is the female version . i can pretty much say it is a sequel to zatoichi without him in it. the main character makes referance to him a number of times in this film. i recommend this film as it is entertaining but it only gets a 7/10 from me. you will not love this film nor will you dislike it either

Good movie
This should be called Daughter of Zatoichi...I liked this film much. More of a B movieof the genre, but well acted, with great actionscenes... A minor classic in my view, let downslightly, with a slow ending
