I like this book that’s easy to follow and produce great food. This book doesn’t have much Indonesian history other than the author’s point of view as Chinese Indonesian Australian. If you are looking for more aesthetic coffee table book, this is not it. If you’re looking cookbook with delicious recipe and easy to read, I suggest this book 100%. I bought both this book & Fire Islands cookbook by Eleanor Ford. They complement each other well for my Indonesian cooking needs. Fire Islands is written by London author and traveller but focused more on aesthetic and story of Indonesian food in each islands.

Yes, you might need to buy a scale if you're in the US. It's worth it. There are also a few specialist ingredients that might not be available at all grocery stores. Again, it's worth it. This food is so, so good. I truly didn't know I was capable of making food this delicious until I started cooking from Coconut & Sambal.

We have tried several recipes and really like the flavors. We had to make several substitutions to use ingredients we could find in our local store. That might be a function of what is common in the US. You will want measuring cups with metric and a scale.Be warned this is not for the novice cook. Many ingredients seem to appear and disappear without warning. Read the recipes several times before you get started to avoid any surprises.

So far everything I have made in this cookbook has been delicious. Highly recommend!

After the first recipe we tried, my husband and I decided we need to work out way through every recipe in this book. It's that good.

Great cookbook with a story, nice pictures and easy to follow instructions.

Just as advertised, perfect

I've tried a few of these recipes and they are delicious, just be prepared to have google handy to convert all the metric measurements into imperial, wish they had both listed, or even a small table reference in the back of the book that listed quick conversions of the most common measurements.

Bought this for my grandson wouldn't mind it myself

I have been looking for a good rounded cookbook of Indonesian recipes for quite sometime. This cookbook has lovely pictures and includes a nice assortment of Indonesian recipes. It is an altogether attractive cookbook that will make you want to try all its recipes.

In letzter Zeit wurden einige wirklich gute, moderne und spannende Bücher zum Thema "indonesische Küche und indonesische Lebensart" geschrieben. So auch dieses!Sehr lesenswert!

Excellent tried so many of the items . Superb and well defined

I like cookbooks that bring the history and context to recipes, techniques and ingredients and this looked like it would fit the bill. Unfortunately most of the recipes are over simplified and miss out of many of the advanced techniques that bring the real flavor of Indonesia. Probably ok for someone with a simple kitchen but for a cooking fanatic who likes to go deep down the rabbit hole of different cuisines this book is more of an appetizer than a proper reference bible.
