Thx (not Ultra) certified in-wall speakers. A bit anemic highs, very nice mid.

I have these in my HT setup in LRC positions. These have pretty good bass, and wonderful mid-range. Vocals, acoustic material all sound natural and pleasant. The natural sounding midrange is typical of silk dome tweeters. My AVR is a Yamaha Rx A2A. The one thing I find wanting with these speakers is the treble end. I ended up having to manually EQ the L-R-C speakers ( +2-3 db in the 6khz and above bands) to get acceptable highs. I am using the GEQ "per channel" equalization and NEO Music setting (listening for Tidal). The anemic highs are a problem with all processing options. Given my GEQ adjustments, I am almost happy with how these sound now, but bells, chimes, cymbals still sound a bit muffled, compared to other speakers I have, such as infinity, Micca, or Klipsch bookshelves. The product description is incorrectly mentioning 2 tweeters, this speaker only has a single 1".I have not done extensive wall cavity prep, just braced the drywall above an below the speakers to minimize any rattling / wall resonance. The wall cavities are filled with lose fiberglass insulation. This should be OK because, the thx certification of these was done without a sealed enclosure, so the were designed for in-wall install without a backing box. These go down to 40 HZ, but I have a crossover point set in the AVR at 80hz, Anything below that goes to the subwoofer only. Eliminating the frequencies under 80 hz cut down on in-wall resonance, although the bass is nicer when the speakers are set up without the AVR-s bass management. When mix-and-matching with other speakers, keep in mind that these are nominal 4 ohm speakers. I find that using 8 ohm surrounds and altitude (monoprice alpha-s in this case) makes it difficult to EQ the whole HT system because of the higher impedance of the other speakers. Even when boosting the other speakers' level via the AVR-s speaker management, the other speakers tend to sound weak compared to these. There is probably a sensitivity difference as well, which may further explain why.My recommendation is that at least the LRC and Surround LR should be all similar impedance, similar timbre, similar efficiency speakers. What I will end up doing, is replacing the LR with the 365iw-s and shifting the 265iw-s into the surround position. The 265 will remain as the Center speaker. Combine with a substantial rethink of their wall cavities, reinforcing/bracing and sealingtheir cavities. so I can run the LR with full spectrum sound.
