Neither of our bathrooms have windows, so they go pitch-black when the power goes out. I looked at a bunch of options for emergency lights, and picked these for a couple of reasons. First off, they use regular alkaline batteries (which are included, despite the description), so no worrying about a rechargeable going bad, and the batteries can be easily swapped out if needed. Second, they have a night-light function for everyday use. They're plenty bright to see by on the low setting, and the light sensor is very sensitive, so the light actually turns off when the main lights are on. I've had others that were always lit - not a huge deal, but very nice. Third, being able to unplug these and use them as flashlights is reassuring. We don't lose power often, but it tends to be for hours when it does go out. The flashlight function isn't super-bright, but it's plenty to see by and get to other emergency supplies, and should last for days of use if need be. The light is also fairly neutral, not the ugly blue-white of a cheap LED, so they're pleasant in the night-light mode. Highly recommended.

These nightlights/emergency backup lights/flashlights are just what we needed. As a nightlight it functions as dawn to dusk. It has a sensor. When it gets dark, they turn on automatically. Also noticed that they have dimming capabilities that automatically adjust on their own depending on the darkness of the room. The darker it gets, the brighter the lights become. As a nightlight, you have 3 settings. One is for dim, one is for bright and the other is for off. When the power goes out, they automatically go into an even brighter mode. You can even remove it from the outlet and it becomes a flashlight. The backup batteries are actually 3 AA Energizer Max (included) which I think is better than rechargeable batteries because they will last up to 250 hours vs 6 hours. Love the fact that you can plug them in either with the light facing down towards the floor or up towards the ceiling. We have the ones in the kitchen facing up so they double as under cabinet lighting. Ones in the hallways, entryways/exits are facing down so you can see where you're walking. Also have a couple in the dining, living, family room and bathrooms. We initially purchased 6 and loved them so much we purchased 6 more! We can literally walk through our entire house with the all the primary lights off with ease. No more looking for a flashlight or phone in the dark when the power is out! We also realized God forbid there's a house fire, these lights may also help guide us towards the exits since we have some plugged in on the lower outlets next to all the entryways. Also, living in a state with frequent hurricanes and power outages, these are definitely a must have. It's definitely worth the money and highly recommend!

Not sure what some of the negative reviewers received, but it doesn't sound like they are reviewing the GE 4-in-1 LED Power Failure Light. There are complaints about motion sensing not working, and this review even asked me to rate that feature. These lights do not have a motion sensor; they have a light sensor. They come on when it's dark, and turn off when it's bright enough to see without them. That feature works great. Other reviews complained about battery life while plugged in. These do not use the batteries while plugged in if there is power to the outlet. Don't believe me? You can take the batteries out and it still works fine as a regular night light. Also, the batteries are included, you do not need to spend more money to buy them. When the time comes that I DO need to replace them, I always have a big box of Amazon Basics AA batteries in the house anyway, since those are used in so many other devices in the home. These lights work exactly as described. They function as a regular nightlight in everyday use. They keep working even when the power goes out. My only tiny quibble is they are a bit bigger than regular night lights because of the 3 AA batteries. I love that they also work as a small flashlight. They are not super bright, but 60 lumens on high is enough light to find your way around a dark house. I now have 4 of them around the house, so even if I just need a little extra light real quick, there is always one nearby and easy to find.

250 HOURS of backup light. Need I say more? It uses 3x AA alkaline batteries. NOT rechargeables Let's get that out of the way. And that's a GOOD THING! This won't become e-waste when the batteries go bad. Just swap them with new, standard AA batteries, and it's good for another 250 hours. This is also WHY it's able to achieve 250 hours. In case you run into a serious power problem (like the grid being down for weeks after a hurricane), this means you can just swap batteries and keep going. There used to be a lot of lights like this back in the 1990s and 2000s. This is a nice update to those, replacing the incandescent bulbs with warm-white, almost incandescent-like LEDs rather than the harsh blue LEDs you find in many cheap offshore products. The only negatives I can come up with are: 1) Even on DIM, they're still quite bright. A few dimmer settings would be nice. 2) You can't have it stay off at night and come on when the power fails. Whichever night light setting you have selected is the brightness used when the power goes out. Thus, if you have the night light set to OFF, it won't automatically turn on when the power fails. The negatives aren't huge, but did require I move them to the hallway rather than in my bedroom. I like them enough that I've bought more and given to my relatives. In Florida, power outages and hurricanes happen. These will get you through those without a problem.

This product is a good value as long as it last a few years. Like the idea of regular batteries. Had another brand with a wireless charging station plugged into the wall. Nice features and worked till everyone of the 6 charging units began to die one by one over a 3 year period. The last unit is still holding a charge so can be used as an emergency light till it's drain with no charging station to recharge. This unit here is basically a night light with regular batteries that will kick in after the power source is out. It has no motion sensor so stays on all night. The dawn to dusk works well but the light is on all night and very bright. It would not work in a bedroom but rather a hallway, hall bath, staircase, any other room or garage when the power fails and everything is dark. Don't expect too much in terms of features at this price point otherwise it's a good product thus far!

I bought the following night light/emergency light combination lights for using around my home. I wanted a light that would act as a night light at home, and switch to emergency light when the power fails without appearing to change. These three items seem to come the closest to doing that, and I wanted to test them out to see which I liked the best. I am most impressed with the "GE 4-in-1 Power Failure LED Night Light, 2 Pack, Dusk-to-Dawn Sensor, 40 Lumens, Foldable Plug, for Emergency Flashlight, Tabletop, Storm, Hurricane, Tornado, Blizzard, White, 49578." I can barely tell when it is switching from night light to emergency light mode, because there is only a quick blink when I throw the wall switch. It is on a GCFI circuit. When the circuit popped, I did not notice until my tablet battery when totally dead, and I wondered why. The tablet and the light continued to shine for the next 5 days - 24 hours a day. It does not sense day/night when in backup mode. It is advertised to shine for up to 250 hours during a power failure. What the light lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in function, and function is more important to me. It could be a little brighter, but I don't really expect much brightness from a night light in my bedroom or hallway. The other night/emergency lights I tested shine nicely in both nightlight and emergency light mode. However, I don't really care for the delay between the two. When switching from either mode to the other mode there is a 1 to 3-second delay, where it briefly turns off and switches over. This can be scary for children. Although, being in the dark for a few seconds is much more desirable than being in the dark and then suddenly being blinded by an emergency light when it turns on. All other night/emergency lights I have tested only shines for 2-3 hours in a power failure. Really, would you rather have this light plugged in and shine for 250 hours, or some other light that shines for only 2 or 3 hours during a blackout. Oh, and it does double as a rechargeable flashlight if you unplug it.

Pros: Came with 3x Energizer MAX AA's with an expiration +9 years from now (awesome!). Replacable batteries ensure a long lifespan of the product. Cons: LED head does not swivel. No charging function for NiMh rechargable batteries (minor). Emergency light function is tied to the night light function - you get 3 switch settings: OFF (being plugged in is doing nothing at all) no nightlight and no emergency light. LOW: Nightlight mode and emergency light mode are at about half brightness. HIGH: Nightlight mode and emergency light mode are at brightest setting. LED's are a 'warm white' if that matters to you. I saw a lot of reviews about people upset this was not automatically rechargable. To me that's a good thing from experience - I've had a couple versions of power fail lights form big box warehouse stores that had an internal lithium battery, either a pouch cell or an 18650. They failed within a few years. I am using Eneloop AA rechargables in these lights and that means instead of being a ~5 year product, it may very well last me decades. With low self discharge Eneloops (or IKEA LADDA AA's), I can forget about these for a full year, then top them off with a recharge when I change out smoke detector batteries.

I bought this product considering the quality standards of GE. But it was a big disappointment for me. In just after 2 months of operation, it stopped working. The power failure mode stopped working. It is now only working as a night lamp. The price was more than 2000 rupees. Total waste of money. I think a well reputed company like GE should not do this to customers.

it comes with a US plug. It's not rechargeable, as the batteries inside are not rechargeable. Even if it was, it works on 110V. Triple A (Avoid Avoid Avoid). Return is also slighlty more complicated as it comes from the US.
