You would hope that if it is a caustic chemical treatment of some sort that this would be disclosed on or in the packaging somewhere. It is not. In use I haven't noticed any odd odors that would make me concerned however, with any imported, aftermarket product such as this I would say proceed at your own risk if you cannot find a definitive answer.
