Uniquely funny
Very funny once you get into the artist's mindset. There are no knee-slappers here, but lots of wit and insight about we silly humans. Plus, nice art.

lacking distinctive characters
Macanudo is a cute collection of comic strips carefully rendered in ink and watercolor. Liniers' sense of humor is relatable, subtly ironic, and reminiscent of Schulz's in the "Peanuts" comics. While some of these strips elicit a smile, more often than not, the humor winds up being pretty humdrum. The strips present a variety of issues such as belonging, identity, misfortune, boredom, frustration, anxiety, and despair, but he also imparts a bit of joy, wonder, and whimsy to prevent his comics from becoming too melancholy. Liniers' characters range from people to birds to robots to gnomes to cats to fish, etc. and are recurrent throughout the book. At first, it wasn't so apparent, but the more I read, I noticed that the characters were lacking dynamism and individuality. Since they're drawn with a blank, hollow-eyed stare (reminding one of Little Orphan Annie), this lends them a sort of insensibility, not to mention a vapid appearance. Some are endearing, but most, being similar in appearance and character ultimately has them all blending together. Macanudo is a decent diversion when travelling on a train or waiting in a doctor's office, but it's not something that warrants rereading. If you're looking for something funnier and not so cutesy, I recommend Gary Larson's The Far Side, Daniel Clowes' Eightball, cartoons by Charles Addams, or Roz Chast.

The book is excellent , it is the first of many Macanudos. The humor is subtle and adorable. The author does one fall in love with many of his characters . I'm 30 and I love these pictures. Unmissable have a book of Liniers, or two, or three.....

A charming comic strip beautifully illustrated and featuring a cast of very original characters
Liniers has one of the most amazing comic strips to come along in many years. it can be held up as a wonderful example of the art form. Masterly drawing done in a watercolour style. Do not miss this set of books

Great Book, nice hard edition, but didn't notice it wasn't in spanish
I was looking for the original verison of this book (spanish version), but bought this accidentally.the prize is great because you get the hard cover and the quality feels great. Sadly i had to return it because it was in english. If you prefer it in english, this is definetly the best version to buy.
