The best of the series!
Benedict/Ben “Beast” Trewlove has always been the most mysterious of the Trewlove siblings, throughout the series we have had glimpses of him and heard things, but we never really got to know him. For me, questions began to pile up, why does he live in a brothel? Why do they call him Beast? What does he do? Well, the wait is over and we will finally learn the answers to all these questions and more!Miss Althea Stanwick’s life has taken a drastic turn for the worse, she was Lady Althea Stanwick the only daughter of the Duke of Wolfford until he plotted to assassinate the Queen and was charged with treason and hanged for his crimes. His family was stripped of their titles, properties and society turned their backs on them. If this was not bad enough Althea’s betrothed the Earl of Chadbourne publicly shames her by turning his back on her, as does everyone else, the embarrassment is too much for her mother, who rapidly declines and passes away. With no options and no allies, the Stanwick siblings move to Whitechapel and Althea gets a job at Gillie’s pub. It is there that she meets Beast.Beast knows she doesn’t belong in Whitechapel and is intrigued by her. He follows her when she leaves and sees her meet a man, assumes she is safe and goes home. Home for him is a brothel, he never planned to own a brothel and would dearly love to get rid of it, but his guilt from the past and his protective nature will not allow him to close the doors and leave the “girls” to the streets. He escapes to his study and tries to put Althea out of his mind and work on his newest murder mystery novel – his first book recently published and he is eager to write the next one. But tonight, the words won’t come and he begins to wonder if Althea could be the answer to his brothel dilemma – maybe he could hire her to teach the girls to be more refined and find jobs for them. He returns to Gillie’s and tries to offer her the position – she grossly misunderstands and refuses to even hear what he has to say.Althea is shocked, she thinks he was asking her to be his mistress. That night her brother Griffith is late to walk her home and when he does show up, he is secretive. She knows her older brother Marcus has gone underground to try and find the other men who plotted with their and hopefully restore their family honor, she also knows that Griffith wants to go with him, but has been left to watch over her. It isn’t until she is attacked on her way home another night and saved be Beast that she begins to reconsider her options. She decides that she will become a courtesan and who better to teach her than a man who owns a brothel? She visits him and learns what he really wanted to hire her for – she agrees, but wants him to teach her how to become a seductress. They come to an agreement and Althea moves into the brothel – much to her brother’s dismay. She explains what she is doing and that by living there, Griffith is free to join Marcus and doesn’t have to worry about her.Beast and Althea become close, she is delighted to learn that he is an author and is fascinated by his life and impressed with all he has accomplished. Slowly they fall in love and she knows that she will never be able to be a courtesan and tells Beast that she has fallen in love with him. He loves her too, he proposes and she accepts, but almost immediately their dream of HEA is shattered when the truth of Beast’s birth comes knocking on the door.I just loved this book so much, as always, the writing is great, the book flows and holds the reader in thrall until the very last word. But this book felt even more poignant than the previous books, all of the siblings have had hurdles to clear before their happy endings, but Beast, whose heart is the biggest, seemed to have a mountain to conquer to win his love. This book was filled with emotion, steamy love scenes, cameos from the other Trewloves, a few laughs, shocking revelations, a bit of revenge, a hero with a huge heart, a lovely declaration scene and an absolutely wonderful epilogue make this book my favorite in the series. This is the last book in the series, but it could easily be read as a standalone title. And while it is the last in this series, it gives us a peek at a new series featuring Althea’s brothers!! I loved this book and most enthusiastically recommend this title to fellow historical romance lovers!

Saved the Best for Last
Where to begin...first off, my favorite of the series. By far, my favorite! Gripping, entertaining, humorous, kind, teary! Lord, the gamut of emotions I felt whilst reading was incredible. This so reminded me of Heath's earlier books that I have read and read over and over again!OK...let's start with basics...Beast is an upright, moral pimp. Wait? What? Yes, he's a pimp so to say...well, he's more of a bodyguard; a bastard raised by Ettie Trewlove (a saint by all means and would LOVE A novella about her happy ending). Our heroine, Thea, was a Lady (daughter of a Duke) who has everything taken from her when her father was found guilty of treason. She takes work where she can with her limited skills (barmaid working in Beast's sister's tavern). That is where the fun begins...she meets Beast agrees to tutor his 'ladies' as to how to be Ladies and he agrees to tutor her as to how to become a courtesean (frankly, I would have preferred to have been one back in the day as they were the only women who controlled their destiny for the most part - sad huh?).They begin to spend time together and their attraction to one another is something that jumps of the page and gives you sweaty palms! Seriously, you can feel the tension (that's what makes Heath good - the imagery of the looks, stares, wow - just wow). They fall and fall hard...plan to marry and then BOOM! We get a left hand turn out of no where that changes their path to happiness. However, it is always a good mother who saves the day! ;)It was sweet and touching to see the other siblings as well as a mention of our beloved Dr. Graves (from Scoundrel of St. James series - a MUST read if you enjoyed this book).I have to say that I could not put it down once I got going...Heath had me laughing, tearing up, plain out weeping, smiling, and wishing I were a part of the Trewlove family (love, love, love the play on the name). Fantastic ending to the serious and I enjoyed how she has set up the next two books which will focus on our Heroine's brothers. And, I bet ya, I have a good feeling about who one of the next heroines might just be! ;)Thank you Ms. Heath for a wonderful journey through Whitechapel to happiness. Thoroughly enjoyed the series and so looking forward to future tales of love and adventure with a sprinkle of naughtiness!

Liked it
I love historical romances! I’ve read most of this author’s books and liked them, even loved some. This book had a mildly intriguing premise - young disgraced debutante makes pact with the last of the Trewloves. The heroine, Althea, was mildly compelling - pretty and kind. The hero, Beast, was also compelling - handsome and strong. They had mild chemistry but not much sizzle. The storyline was predictable. Overall, good but not great.

a stirring romance and gentle love story initiated by trauma
Althea Stanwick has suffered a life altering change that she was not responsible for. Her brothers could not protect her, her father was hung as a traitor and she was caste out of society. Beast, Benedict Trewlove, met her in his sister’s tavern as a serving wench. The attraction is instantaneous for him. He was a just, kind, very intelligent man who owned a shipping company protected a brothel where he hoped to enrich the lives of the woman so they did not need that kind of work. The story is richly romantic as Althea and Ben learn about each other and interact. They share similar outlooks on life but towards the end there is a story twist and a HEA is doubted. Hang tight the ending is incredibly romantic.

Couldn’t put it down easily.
Read it through two days, it’s a great thing to have waiting at the bus stop. I liked how it ended in 1910, but obviously we all know which way the world is turning. It would maybe interesting to see who goes to war from the family further down the line. I like that the author is going to explore Thea’s two brothers though, I liked the sounds of them. When the world at the present, is facing cultural wars, and Britain in particular is struggling with questions about colonialism and its past, it’s a good to see a family (although fictional) represented that is so hard working and made something of themselves, rather than it just being handed to the elites. Given the popularity of shows like Who do you think you are, I think that the present fictional Trewlove family would be very pleased to look back on their family and smile.

Just beautiful…
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. A beautiful story of two flawed individuals where love conquers all. Benedict is a perfect book boyfriend.

End of the series
Finally, I've finished this series! I'm not a huge fan of romances, Regency or otherwise. Still, for this type of fiction, it's a good series and this is one of the better novels. I liked the twist toward the end--unexpected. The author did a great job so credit where credit is due. This is quite likely the last Regency Romance I'll read. For fans of the sub-genre, this is a good one.
