Tate & LyleBlack Treacle 454 g

Just what I needed for a fruitcake recipe. I was not able to find it in the local stores.

This is bona fide, authentic British Black Treacle. I think the closest comparison I could make would be to American molasses, but it's even thicker, stronger, and (for my taste) just slightly different. If you have a recipe that calls for it, I recommend that you buy it and discover it for yourself.

This item arrived damaged and leaking. But more worryingly, it appears that the expiration date was scrubbed off of the lid. So who knows how old it is. Not returnable, so into the trash I guess.

This is what some in United States call blackstrap molasses. It arrived in good condition. I got it to make my version of caramel popcorn.

Although the can was messy, the product was delicious

Because this can was bubble wrapped and taped before being shipped in a bubble bag (box would have been more appropriate though!) I believe this leak occurred before it was shipped as there are no dents on the sides of the can. Just treacle sticky fluid leaking at location of the manufacturer seal of the can where the metal meets the top of the cans metal lid; can even has a red safety seal on the lid! Didn't bother to remove the taped bottom of bubble wrap as using would be a potential health hazard! We really needed this ingredient which is not available locally so I'm quite disappointed I got a refund instead of the option to return/replace (and ship a clean one in a box!) Wish I knew how to put phone photos on computer!!
