Solid, Precise, and Built to Last
The IRWIN 12001ZR T-Handle Tap Wrench (#0–1/4") impressed me right out of the box. The build quality feels top-tier — sturdy steel construction with a smooth, well-machined finish. The fit and grip are excellent; taps lock in securely without any wobble, and the T-handle provides great control and comfort even during fine threading work. It’s compact, easy to handle in tight spaces, and the action is smooth yet precise, making it ideal for both professional and hobby use. After several uses, it still feels solid with no play or looseness — clear evidence of IRWIN’s durability and attention to quality.

Works well. Plenty of leverage.
Works well and is well made. Barely fits a 1/4in drive though. Bit fit snugly.

Works with small taps if you know the secret.
For a tool that costs less than $5, it is satisfactory and does the job it was designed to do and it won't wear out in my lifetime. The collar on mine was very hard to turn especially when cranking it down to use a smaller tap. That's why I gave it 4 stars. I ended up using some valve grinding paste on the threads and after working it back and fourth for a while it now works pretty well. I bought this to use with a #1 tap. As others have pointed out, there are no instructions telling you it will accommodate the smaller sizes only if you insert the tap inside the chuck rather than use the visible jaws, as shown in the picture. You can't really tell by looking but there is an inner set of jaws. Also, this item is now made in China, not the USA as implied in the pictures

Now I have three!
I've had two different tap & die sets over the years and was never was able to use the small tap wrench with the smallest taps. I've only been using very small taps lately, and it gets annoying having to use a tiny crescent wrench to turn the taps so I bought this. I tried it out and it was just as useless as the others! I was just about to start a return when I looked deep inside one of my others and saw a little detail I'd never noticed. There is a second set of jaws inside! Duh! I never saw that on any other one for years! Can you tell I'm not a pro? This one works as well, or better, than the others. I decided to keep it because it's not the seller's fault that I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. Plus, I can keep it with my special taps for special work without breaking out the big sets. Recommended.

Irwin Hanson #0-1/4 T-Handle Tap Wrench
DO NOT BUT! Junk right of package! Zero quality control. Eleven different size taps should fit into this tap wrench, but only 2 fit [ #12 and 1/4''] . You have zero chance with the other 9 size taps to fit . I measured the outside diameter of the tap handle and the tightening nut , and found only .021 difference. So each side of the tap handle only has .0105 of thread depth to grab. When attempting to tighten is you will hear and feel a snap, this is the threads jumping. This prevents the handle from tightening any more. The tap wrench handle has no spring back. It is not properly heat treated as a file can easily cut into it. Despite the no return claim , This item is returnable on two counts, the item is defective and the item is falsely advertised as for #0-1/4 sizes. Call the customer service # and get your money back. when I called the computer told me it was over 30 days and I was not eligible for a refund when it had only been 4 ????????? Shame on Irwin for making and selling offshore JUNK and Amazon for not stop selling it!

1/4" is not 1/4"
The tool is good quality and is a good value. I made a mistake in sizing though. I bought this wrench for a tap whose shank is 0.235" square. It happens to be an M8 tap. However, this 0.235" shaft is way too big for this tool. I see now that the tool is sized for an actual 1/4" tap, whose shank is smaller than 1/4". The description says "1/4-inch capacity", but buried below it also says #0-1/4". Probably not saying "1/4-inch capacity" and only saying #0-1/4" would be more clear. Hope this helps someone.

Product is OK but no instructions has caused confusion.
I read the reviews here for this tap wrench. I noticed buyers having problems to get the wrench to clamp and hold the smaller taps. I had trouble too. I finally discovered this tap wrench/holder has several areas to hold the square end of different sized taps. The very smallest taps have to be inserted deeper into this tool in order to fit into a smaller square that is located deeper down inside. The larger square that you see as you look at the end of the wrench is for the larger 1/4 taps. The smaller sizes go down lower. No body would know this because there are no instructions. I guess Irwin thinks that if you don't need instructions for a screwdriver, then why bother with any of their hand tools. The lack of instructions has left many buyers confused as to how this one size fits all tool works. Once I discovered how it is made and designed, I found it to be a good tool.

not easy to use and limited adjuster
terrible design in terms of adjuster and can only really hold 2 sizes even if it states otherwise

Too large for Irwin M3 taps, 3.5mm drill bits
I assume this is fine for taps larger than M3, but will have virtually no clamping force for Irwin M3 taps.

Très solide
Je crois que cet outil sera très durable.

Holds 5-40 and 6-32 taps
The tap handle does hold small taps. There is a smaller grip recessed inside the tap for the small taps. At first I though it was not good, but looking closer I saw the smaller grip. Holds tight and works like a charm.
