If you do not have a soldering iron and can solder 1/2-way decently, this is not the battery for you - and you need to have someone who fixes cell phones swap your battery out. IF you know how to solder, the entire process takes about 15-20 minutes and the battery is a perfect match. The pins are polarized / keyed (meaning: one is pin-style, the other is blade-style - which means you cannot accidentally install the battery backwards - the pin/blade perfectly match the original battery posts which get soldered the circuit board). You will need to take a razor (utility knife) and start separating the original key fob on the key end, then gently separate the case halves w/ a small flathead screwdriver (the case halves are glued together - so either be prepared to re-glue them w/ superglue, or better yet - pay $12 and get a brand new key fob case (which snaps open/closed) - search Amazon for the description listed below). Desolder the old battery and resolder on the new one ... the battery will likely come UNcharged (dead) and you will need to put it in your key fob socket and drive around for 30 minutes to charge it. The title says it all, I’m very pleased with this purchase. No modifications we needed to the tabs, they were 90° and fit the circuitboard holes just fine. Also, the battery arrived well-charged with 3.09v. I plan to order a second battery for my other key. The accompanying photo shows the new battery fully and installed onto an E46 diamond key fob circuit board. I’m a novice at soldering, but it was simple and took less than 10 minutes start to finish (excluding gluing the fob shell back together and pairing to my BMW).

I purchased two. Installed the first one completely and it didn't work. Had to take out and start all over. Damaged the battery in the process. Installed the second one and it didn't work. Ordered a tester to check whether the batteries are dead. No expiration date or use by date on product. Glad to know it's not me!

The battery is the exact same that was removed from the fob. The difference was the height of the prongs to be soldered in. This was a very simple job. What I did was wedge a small screwdriver between the battery and circuit board to split apart as I heated the existing solder points. The original came out with ease l, leaving enough behind to put in the new. With the prongs a little high, I snipped the top so they wouldn't interfere with the top (button side) of the fob. I then positioned the new batter prongs just under the soldering points where they were just inside the board only. With a little pressure, heated up each point again soldering the replacement battery prongs in place. There was a small gap between the board, so I took some small needle nose pliers squeezing the battery to the board. (Pliers were on top of soldering points). The prongs bent slightlly resulting in a flush install. If you don't do this you'll have negative pressure from the contact point and the battery likely ripping it off over time. Additionally, I reused the black sticker on the factory battery to ensure no electrical contact with the circuit board. I then sealed it with liquid electrical tape (basically black rubbery-plasticy glue) and clamped it until cured. All is well! Hope the battery lasts 8 yrs like the original.

My son got this for his 2008 BMW key fob which stopped working because of a dead battery. He took out the circuit board, which was hard because he had to cut out the side and use a screw driver to pry the thing open, and then he had to take out the old battery, which also was hard because he had to use a soldering iron. But you just heat up one pin, and when the metal softens, use a screwdriver to pull out the pin, then do the same thing for the second pin. After you get it out, the new one fits in where the old one came out. Soften up the solder with the soldering iron, then push the pin through the hole. Do that for the other pin/hole, and that's it. The battery is permanently in place.

Although the battery has the required 3 volts it is obviously used, at least partially. The soldering lugs have been soldered to, one with a blob. Too much trouble to return, I'll make it work. Disappointing.

For those people who install and the fob still does not work. You should try to find a procedure for your car to Re-initialize the key with the car. I had the same problem. I thought my fob is not working with the new battery. But I had to initialize it to my Mini with few steps with the ignition.

Worked perfectly

I purchased other batteries of this model from other sellers and they came discharged and wouldn't even charge to 3V. This battery came fully charged at 3V and worked right away when soldered into my BMW key! Now I can use my fob again!

Battery didn’t work after installing. Did voltage test and was only reading 2 volts. Will not charge.

Rechargeable batteryThis looks a bit different than the one I had in my key fob, but I guess it supposed to do the same thing as my old one. Nevertheless it did not work.
