yes, it does well for filtering the iron out. I will say there is nothing that will stop it, but it will slow it done. I live where there is iron 'coloration' in my water, tub, toilet, etc .. and has been less than normal since starting these 5 micron filters. I also don't have to change my water filter inside my fridge as much as I did before. So every little bit helps.

Is this filter good for hot water 180 degree F coming out of Hot water heater..?

The filter should help to have clean water at any temperature, probably up to 200 degrees. Very strong material.

fish tank RO quality?

That’s a very interesting question. It might if you have a very large fish tank but I really can’t be sure. Why don’t you call aqua boon and ask them for their advice

What is the best way to shorten these apx 1/4 inch without ruining the filter?

I have a table saw and 1/4 inch maybe too much. I remove about 1/8 inch works fine. I have other companies similar filter type and measured those so that's where I got the ideal length.
