Expected lifetime, will these last 5 years with regular use or just 3 months like most cheap, poor quality headphones?

3 months like most cheap ones. They sound decent tho. What I've done is, diy install a Superlux HD-668 B style cable, ie, short male end from the earphones to the female end cable. That way, you ain't gonna rip'em if you pull them by mistake. Mine wore down on the jack end. Also, I got rid of the microphone, so there's only 2 slim cables going into one instead of a little case for calls, volume, microphone.

Can these earphones be used for phone call? Do they have a mic?

Absolutely, they have a mic and a volume controls just like any other earphones. I use them all the time as I am concerned about EMF and won't use bluetooth buds. They also have a nice long cord to leave to the side and soft enough not to strangle you in the night. Best ones I've used and due to poor sleep I've been listening to audio books at night for years.

Is the cable soft rubber type or hard plastic?

Flexible soft rubber type, I’d say. Definitely the best I’ve had in a while.

Is the sound quality tinny at all?

No not at all tinny in my opinion, i cant fault these they are really good for the price :)
