Reproduced 1959 Russian Zagreb Series chess set in Staunton style is made up of sheesham wood and natural boxwood. The King proudly stands at 3.8 inches and its base is a robust 1.6 inches. Wider base and superb size proportioning from the king to the pawn exhibits true intricate craftsmanship in all the pieces. Along with the unique long, downward-pointing head of the knight, what makes this reproduction so unique is how it feels in your hand. The set is entirely handmade in India and weighted for prodigious hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. The opposing pieces are made of natural boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. All chess pieces have billiard board green felt pads on their bases which give you the smooth movement on the chess board.

Wry nice hefty set. Wood color and grain is beautiful. Nicely weighted and balanced. Absolute joy to play. Highly suggest to any player.

Beautiful Rosewood & Boxwood Chess Pieces - Shipped Fast by Seller
Nice chess pieces! They shipped really fast from India and got here quicker than expected. Packaging was good. The reason for the 3 stars is that one dark knight and bishop were chipped/cracked and it took time to get their customer service to respond for a replacement. When checking to see if I could return the product I would have to ship the set at my own expense back to India and/or work with seller. I did get a response from their customer service and they are sending me the replacement pieces. When I receive the new ones I will update the review. If the pieces were not chipped and/or cracked. I would easily provide a 4 or 5 star rating.The positive: The overall set is beautifully crafted. I love the Rosewood color. I was a bit worried on how the set would look on a walnut chessboard but the set looks great. Contrast is good. Another concern was how they will fit on a 19 inch board with 2 inch squares but to me they fit just right. I checked their website and they recommend this size square for the set. In all the pieces fit just fine on the board.Overall I would recommend this set if you are looking for a new wooden chess set. Just understand that it ships from India and if you are not satisfied contact the seller to see what they can do to ship back the product. I was debating to get this or the Dubrovnik pieces and happy with this purchase.
