Legacy of Mercy: (A High-Society Chicago Historical Novel)

Great sequel to book 1 and not quite as heart-wrenchingly painful at times due to lost loved ones in the first book. Of course, I read this one because of that one so no disrespect to it at all.This book makes you want to see others the way God sees them and never give up on people. It also inspires me to be there for people in hard times and helps give me a vantage point to see the world through their eyes.Great perspectives throughout it and no one is depicted as perfect … even Oma! Lol

I would recommend this to any historical Christian fiction fan. It was such an enjoyable read to relax to. I heartily recommend it.

So many sad things happen, just like our lives today, but by the Grace of God, all things worked out for the good. I hadn’t read anything in a while, and I felt prompted to find a Christian Fiction book to sit down with. Lynn Austin definitely did her research to bring this story together, making reference to the Chicago Fire and the town of Holland (it really exists too) into the story line. In the end, Derek and Anna…oops I don’t want to reveal too much. I can honestly say that I’m happy I read this 2 book series, and to understand how much the characters loved the Lord.

Fantastic read

She has faced unthinkable heartache yet was forced to bury it deep inside instead of dealing with the pain. But being a guest in Geesje's home begins to transform Cornelia. She begins to trust again and have a hope bigger than her past. Geesje is the rock of the book. She's kind and compassionate yet strong and determined to stand up for what's right. She may resist at first, but Geesje always ends up open to God's leading even if it's not the way she thought it should be. My favorite quote is, "Maybe change is His (God's) favorite tool to make sure we keep growing closer to Him." Get ready to fall in love with the characters and storyline of Legacy of Mercy! You'll have a hard time putting it down. When you land on the last page, your heart will be so full, but at the same time you'll feel like you're saying goodbye to a best friend because that's what these beloved characters become.

Second book in series. I love the author Lynn Austin. All her books are excellent reading..and based on God’s word

What a great story so many lessons woven throughout this book. I laughed and cried and was challenged . Very enjoyable

The first book in this series is Waves of Mercy. You need to read that one first. It's a delightful tale told in first person.I love how Lynn Austin wrapped up the story that she started in Waves of Mercy. There are two main characters, Anna and Geesje. You'll love them both.Lynne Austin deals with grief and healing in a profound way in this book. If you are hurting after the loss of a loved one, this book series may help you find comfort and healing.It's another fabulous Lynne Austin book!

This is the second of two books about Dutch settlers moving to Michigan to enjoy freedom of worship. It spans a number of years & is a great read about God’s sovereignty and love.

it held me in its power numerous times. I enjoyed the twists and turns, and the characters portrayed. A good read. Lynn Austin is one of my favourite writers.

„Legacy of Mercy“ ist die Fortsetzung „Waves of Mercy“ (dt.: „Töchter der Küste). Ich kann kaum beschreiben, wie viel Freude ich daran hatte, dieses Buch zu lesen! Lynn Austin ist eine wundervolle Autorin und ihre Bücher sind ausnahmslos gut und lesenswert, jedoch war gerade der Prequel von „Legacy of Mercy“ - „Waves of Mercy“ – eines der Bücher, die mir weniger gut gefallen hatten. Obwohl ich die Lebensgeschichten von Anna Nicholson und Geesje de Jonge interessant fand, die hier abwechselnd in der Ich-Perspektive erzählt wurden, konnte ich mit beiden Charakteren nicht richtig mitfühlen. Gerade Geesjes Geschichte hatte mich kaum angesprochen.Dennoch war ich äußerst gespannt, als die Veröffentlichung einer Fortsetzung angekündigt wurde. Und wie überrascht war ich, als ich „Legacy of Mercy“ nach den ersten Seiten kaum mehr aus der Hand legen konnte, bis spät in der Nacht die Seiten umblätterte und die Geschichte innerhalb von zwei Tagen durchgelesen hatte!Anna und Geesje sind mir in diesem Buch richtig ans Herz gewachsen, aber es gibt auch so viele wunderbare Nebencharaktere wie Cornelia, Christina, Marinus, Judge Blackwell und selbstverständlich Derk Vander Veen! Obwohl ich nicht aufhören konnte zu lesen, war mir zugleich auch schmerzlich bewusst, dass mit jeder weiteren Seite der Abschied von Anna, Derk und allen anderen lieb gewonnenen Personen nahte, die mir am Ende wie alte Freunde vorkamen.Zur Geschichte: Anna Nicholson kehrt, nachdem sie kurze Zeit bei ihrer Großmutter Geesje in Holland verbracht hat, in ihr gewohntes Leben in Chicago zurück, um Hochzeitsvorbereitungen zu treffen und William zu heiraten, der ihrem leidenschaftlichen Glauben jedoch nach wie vor relativ gleichgültig gegenübersteht. Außrdem lässt Anna der Gedanke an ihre leibliche Mutter Christina nicht los und sie stellt Nachforschungen über die Pinkerton Detektive an und taucht ein in die schwierigen Lebensumstände ihrer Mutter …Geesje nimmt derzeit eine junge Immigrantin, die siebzehnjährige Cornelia, bei sich auf, die ein schweres Gemüt zu haben scheint. Welches Geheimnis aus der Vergangenheit drückt das Mädchen derart nieder? Kann Geesje zu ihr durchdringen?Der Plot des Romans war eine gute Mischung zwischen Spannung und Romanze, ohne dass die Romanze dabei die Geschichte dominiert hätte, denn auch Cornelia und das schwierige Verhältnis zu ihrem strengen Großvater bilden in „Legacy of Mercy“ einen größeren Handlungsstrang aus. Die Romanze zwischen Anna/Anneke & Derk ist keineswegs kitschig gewesen, sondern hat stattdessen sehr real und wahrhaftig gewirkt, indem sie sich langam und auf Grundlage einer Freundschaft entwickelt hat und es war jedes Mal eine Freude, die Seiten zu lesen, in denen beide aufeinandergetroffen sind.Die Beschreibungen sind sehr lebendig und ich hatte oft das Gefühl, wirklich in Geesjes gemütlichen Haus bei einer Tasse Tee zu sitzen oder mit Anna in den Kreisen der gehobenen Gesellschaft von Chicago umherzugehen. Daneben waren in dem Roman - wie gewohnt von Lynn Austin - wertvolle Glaubensbotschaften eingeflochten, die zum nachdenken anregen.Ich hoffe sehr auf eine weitere Fortsetzung (vielleicht einmal aus der Ich-Perspektive von Derk?!) über das Leben von Anna/Anneke, Derk und vor allem Cornelia.
