Buy it, you'll like it.
I've owned a number of "professional" flashlights over the years. My fascination with these products started while I was involved as a Sheriff's deputy in search and rescue at night on partially frozen lakes. What a difference a decent light makes for your own safety and finding what you're looking for! Hand-held flashlights have certainly come a long way since the days of the incandescent bulb and the much improved Xenon bulbs. LED's are the way to go (although HID has applications in certain applications requiring extraordinary power). This light is the latest edition of the duty light being carried by many professional users that like the Streamlight brand. It represents a substantial upgrade over the Streamlight Stinger product line in that the Strion product line uses Lithium Ion battery technology instead of the Nickle Metal Hydride technology used in the Stinger. The result is higher energy density which translates into more or longer light production for a given battery weight. L-Ion batteries also perform better at extremely low temperatures and don't self-discharge anywhere nearly as fast as most NiMiH batteries. So if you're leaving it off the charger for an extended period you're more likely to have a useable light 3 months later. The other important feature of this light is a newer generation of LED that produces 500 lumens on the highest of the 3 settings. This flashlight puts out more light than the headlights on my first car I bought back in the 70's. The beam is a moderately wide spot with a fair amount of light spillage outside the central beam. I find it a very useful pattern as it can be used to search out to 200 - 300 feet while spilling enough light so you can see where you're about to put your feet as you walk along with the central beam pointed forward. The tailcap switch works well once you get used to it. You can use the switch for a moment with a half-press or lock it on with a full press. It even has a strobe feature if you quickly double-click the tailswitch. It's a curiosity for me, but might be useful in certain law-enforcement situations. Unlike the old days where you had to remove the flashlight from your belt holster loop in order to sit in a vehicle, this light is small enough to stay in the holster. Yet it provides much more light than my first Xenon Streamlight. You can even carry it in a normal pants or jacket pocket. Size matters and this is the flashlight I use the most. (By the way, a holster is NOT included. I bought one from NiteIze that works fairly well.) The light comes with a nice secure snap-in AC/DC charger too. It's great if you don't want to fiddle with plugging in USB cables or need to mount in in a car/boat/ATV and not worry about it flying out of the charger when you hit a bump or jump a wave.

I like stuff that works.
I'm a nightshift Patrol Officer and got tired of wasting money on flashlights that would work a short while and then leave me in the dark. I NEED my light to be dependable ALL the time EVERY time. I wish I had bought this light sooner because I would be money ahead. This light is a nice size to slide into my pant pocket as a backup light. I bought the Stinger HL for my primary. The Strion has a really nice beam pattern and floods a car well on traffic stops. It is a little bit short to hold under your arm and uniform covers it sometimes so I like the Stinger better on stops. I like the switch on the tailcap and it works as it is designed .... but.... I prefer an on demand level selection instead of the press and hold to change brightness. As in you have to hold switch down for a couple seconds and wait for the level to change. I would rather just bump the switch and get what I need immediately. I do like how you just double click for strobe and its there right now instead of having to cycle through to find it. I've been using it on Duty and off for about a month and I really like it so far. Battery life is good and plenty bright for all around patrol work. It is a little pricey but I think worth it after all the money I've blown past years on junk. I feel like it should be more around an even 100.00 for what it is but I'm happy with what I got for my $$$. It seems tough enough also. I've dropped it several times with no ill effect. It is the PERFECT off duty EDC light. slides right in my back pocket next to my wallet. I plan to buy a couple more to mount in permanent locations in my house and cars. I give it 5 stars because my gripes are just MY personal preferences and not a flaw in material or quality.

Very happy with this light
I was a little apprehensive about spending this amount of money on a light for my duty belt, but I'm glad I did. It is very bright and has different settings. There is a high power, low power, and strobe setting, and it is easy to switch between them. This has saved me from lugging around the traditional Mag light whenever I go into buildings for searches or whatever. This is always on the belt and handy. It holds a charge very well, and I have not had it fade out on me yet. It's also made of a very lightweight material, so it doesn't add much weight to an already overloaded belt. That being said, you can tell it is very durable and can take some abuse. As far as the cost, well, I guess by the time you add in the price of less expensive lights and the batteries for the life of the light it all kind of evens out since this one is rechargeable. Overall, I think you can't go wrong here, even at this price point. Update 05/31/2016: Just wanted to update this after using the product for a few months. No regrets with this one. I am so glad I got this, and it is worth every cent. If you are on the fence, go for it. I haven't had this die on me yet, and there are times that I don't charge it for a couple of weeks. I think this is much smarter than getting a light that requires battery replacement. The only thing is that sometimes the button on the cap can be finicky if it's not screwed on firmly. I couldn't figure out why the light wouldn't work properly, and then it dawned on me. How the cap got a little loose is beyond me, but a quick twist fixed it (sometimes it is that easy). Update 04/07/2019: I'm so impressed with this light I had to give a long term update. The light has taken a beating and still works. It still holds a charge well, and I only recharge it once every couple of months. This is one of the best professional purchases I've ever made. I love this light.

Best Light for Law Enforcement!
I am a Police Officer, and I have to say this light is simply incredible. It's the brightest, most compact light I've been able to find. I replaced an older Streamlight Stinger (which is still a great light) with this Strion HL model. I wanted something extremely bright, but compact enough to fit in my tactical vest pocket--This fit the bill exactly. This light is perfect for traffic stops (which is a very large part of the job). The Stinger I've used for years has a more concentrated beam and when I would shine it into a vehicle, the occupants could see exactly what I was illuminating (kind of like a large laser pointer in this regard). The Strion HL has a broader beam and does an excellent job of lighting up the entire interior of each vehicle. The HL model is also perfect for clearing houses/buildings and searching through wooded areas because of the extreme brightness and broad beam. I can only think of 2 negative things about this light (that are easily corrected by changing the settings on the light)... 1. The charge only lasts about 1 hour on the 500 lumen setting. This is sufficient for me on most days. You can always turn the lumens down to increase runtime if needed. Even at the 250 lumen setting, this light is extremely bright! 2. It is so bright that it's hard to see when using it to illuminate for writing purposes. Once again though, you can turn the lumens down if necessary. Bottom line is that this is an excellent product that is backed by the Streamlight quality we've been used to for so long. I've done a lot of research on other flashlights out there, and I am confident that this light is the best on the market right now! I would recommend this light to anyone. It's worth every penny!

Small, portable, bright, and durable.
I bought this light to take the place of my Streamlight Stinger LED at work. I work in an automotive shop and the Stinger was a little big to be completely portable. I wanted a light to wear on my belt in a holster so I always had it on me. I bought this Strion light with a leather open top belt holster and could not be happier with the set up. This little light is very bright and quality made. I would highly recommend this light to anyone that is an auto mechanic. Update 2022: So, I have had this light for 9 years now and I changed professions to a computer programmer in 2015, so I went from all day use and abuse to just occasional use at home. The things I can say about this light is that it is super bright, but you don't want to keep it on the high setting all the time, it will drain the battery fairly quickly. This light has held up to wear and tear in an automotive environment, dropping it has not phased it. In 2021, I started having problems with the light. The light would no longer respond to the switch, it would stay on all the time and would cycle through the three brightness settings. I had to remove the battery to shut it off. I did some research and found that the actual led unit was the issue, so I searched for a replacement. I had some trouble finding an exact replacement for the HL version, but I finally found one at brightguy (STR747603) for ~ $30 with shipping. The unit was easy to replace, and my light is back to normal now. I am still using the original battery that came with the light in 2013, which is pretty impressive. Even though the led unit failed, this is still an awesome light, I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone!

Powerful, yet compact.
Fantastic flashlight! I'm an airline pilot and was looking for a portable, discreet flashlight that can easily be put in a full flight bag, yet has a high power, quality beam for doing "walk arounds". The Streamlight 74751 far and away exceeded my expectations (and they were high, after reading reviews). The flashlight has a very powerful (yet adjustable) beam in a very small, compact design (fits easily in pant pockets). Some of the main benefits that I think stand out and should be mentioned are: - Very powerful beam, especially considering its it's very compact size! (the entire light easily fits inside a pocket, unless you wear skinny jeans) - Metal housing, yet is lighter than it looks. - 3 beam brightness settings, in addition to a strobe setting. - Pressing the power button lightly (without "clicking" it on) turns on the light temporarily (momentary switch), then immediately turns off when you lift your finger off the button. I find this a fantastic feature for walk arounds when you're in and out of dark spots you need to illuminate, without the constant wear and tear of "clicking" on and off. The box includes the flashlight, recharging base (clamps the flashlight onto the charging contacts), AC power adapter (to charge at home, etc), and a DC car power outlet adapter. The latter 2 adapters plug into a universal socket on the recharging base. All in all, a fantastic flashlight that I highly recommend. Couldn't be happier with my purchase. The only down side is possibly the price, but then again, you do get what you pay for (which I've found out several times over with other flashlights).

The light itself works great but gets pretty warm
I love this flashlight! I use it for work, I have dropped it several times and it just keeps going! The only downside, it does get pretty warm when you’re using it for long periods of time, and the light dims just a little bit when that happens. But I absolutely love the flashlight and get compliments on it almost every time I use it! It’s super bright for how compact it is! The only reason for 4 stars is for the fact that it gets pretty warm and dims a little bit

Very well made flashlight!
I have multiple Streamlight products, so I had high expectations for the Strion rechargable LED, and I am not disappointed. The flashlight is extremely bright for its size and fits perfectly in your hand. The button cap controls are intuitive and easy to operate (I can't say this for some other brands of tactical-style flashlights I own). My only complaints are minor ones: First, I was really looking forward to having the car charger, so that the flashlight could be recharged on camping trips. I was disappointed to find, however, that using the car charging cord requires the use of the charging bracket, which I intend to mount to the wall in the laundry room. I guess I was expecting that it would be a cord capable of clipping onto the light and charging it independent of the wall charger. I will look into getting a second wall bracket so I can utilize the car charger separately. My other observation is really minor, and that is about the way the bracket mounts to the wall. Given the force it takes to pull the flashlight from the bracket, I want to make sure the screws hit a stud in the wall. The bracket, however, is made such that the screws are on the horizontal axis (if you mount it so the flashlight lens is up, as they recommend) not the vertical axis, so that it would be easy to screw into a single stud. Additionally the holes are too far apart for the two screws to hit one stud. It is a minor annoyance for me, and perhaps there is a compelling reason why it is designed that way, but it's one of those things that leaves me scratching my head. All that being said, however, this light and its accessories are extremely well made, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Updated note: So I guess I should have done more research to know exactly what I was getting (but this was an Amazon "lighting deal" so I still came out OK price-wise). I now see that this flashlight is available in a different set, which includes the two charger cords and two holders. The regular price on Amazon for this option seems to be better than if you purchase the second base separately. Still very happy with my purchase, however.

Best flashlight we've ever owned
We got this flashlight a couple of years ago, and it's incredible. It holds a charge for what seems like MONTHS, is brighter than the light of 1000 suns, and is lightweight. Is it a bit pricey? Yup! But, save from us losing it, I don't think we'd buy another flashlight in our lifetimes, as well as not needing to buy batteries.... it's such a good investment. It's taken us through several long-haul power outages and dark winter nights without an issue. I wish there was an option to have a less bright mode, but I just cover the light a bit with part of my hand and that does the trick.

Superior flashlight!
This little flashlight is a rockstar! I bought for my husband this past summer and was initially surprised at how small it was but have found it’s waaay better than a big clunky flashlight. The brightness is crazy!!.. superior to any we’ve ever owned... and we have had many!! Awesome quality, and battery life - highly recommend!! Update: Dec.2021 - still a rockstar! 👍🏻
