The Good Wife: Season 6

Disappointing season. The product is good!
The video came in great shape, and worked very well. The season 6 episodes were a huge disappointment. The first 5 seasons were excellent, but after the Will Gardner character was killed off, the show slumped and lost its flow. Alicia, the main character, runs for State Attorney, which is boring because the viewers already went through 2 campaigns with her husband, Peter, and to have to go through another campaign was boring. I also do not like how they have changed her character....she is not likeable at all. The Good Wife should have stopped at season 5 and wrapped it up.

Justice, Crisis of faith, To Kill A Mockingbird, and the Good Wife
I binge watched this season first on ondemand and then on DVD and they had me until the end of it. I hated the fact that the democratic convention wouldn't fight for her in the vote scandal and I hated how Diane and Cary treated her especially since Alicia was there for them in their times of need. I really would've liked to have seen, if Will was still alive and around how things would have been different even if it was just a dream sequence. I really am bummed that this was kalindas last season as well because I liked her character. I do however like the fact that since now Alicia is alone, she now is doing what she wants and not what her husband, partner, boss, love interest want. It'll be interesting to see in season 7 if she stays alone and her own boss, which I doubt, because she just doesn't seem built that way as a character. I'd like to see Cary, Diane, and her back together again although on her terms and not just because she is desperate to be around other lawyers. I liked the scene with grace and her and watching To Kill A Mockingbird and I liked the conversation that ensued about how she knew people who became lawyers because of that book/movie and their ideals and that they're usually prosecutors or somewhere else where it's not about money but about ideals and that she was not one of those people. I'm thinking that between that and graces crisis of faith, season 7 is going to be more about cases that have far reaching impacts and less about the big buck cases. I was also bummed that Diane never made it as a State Supreme Court judge because I was rooting for her.

(Oodles of spoilers.) Boring frequently but not all the time.
The ninth episode, Dark Money, written by another writer, not the usual ones, goes way beyond the limits of the typical boundaries of entertainment for this series. It is unrelievedly misogynistic, and, I believe, potentially traumatizing, for girls (especially) and women and injurious to men and boys. There are two parallel stories with ghastly themes in which women are 1) repeatedly (by flashbacks) strangled (with the smiling strangler defending himself without much effective confrontation from anyone), and thete's a rich man, campaign donor, who is both meanly homophobic, but also uses rape language to attack Alicia Florick to another person. I am a longtime feminist and psychotherapist, supposedly inurred by now to such tawdry images, but I found this whole episode, replete with such images, to be shocking in a series which doesn't usually indulge in women - hating porn. (Particularly when it's boring and contains no entertainment value!) [Note: It is produced by Juliana Margullies. Why produce meaningless trash?]The series started off slowly, the first four episodes in which Carey Agos gets accused of a crime are boring. There is a curious overlay of flecks of situation comedy turns, particularly by a new lawyer, brought in by Diane, which is startling because it's such a departure from the usual style -- and, it doesn't work. The murderous drug dealer, Bishop, figures throughout, in his intimidating way. What hold does he have over Kalinda? Why does she do his bidding, and call him sir all the time, even when he's been fired by her firm? Why does Alicia not protest when Bishop tells her he has set up and donated money to a PAC in her name? That's just beyond belief for a smart lawyer -- who's running for office. Why, anyway, does Alicia's firm even take on 'the biggest drug dealer in Chicago' as a client in the first place?Alicia's 'body woman', assistant, Marissa, is handed weird lines; she is forever interrupting with a glass of milk for Alicia, who never wants one. (Why milk? She never explains.) It isn't her acting, I think, but the writing. The Alan Cummings character has now yelled at Alicia consistently for several episodes. I am at #11. How can someone who is assistant to the governor be so uncontained? The writing lacks pizzazz compared to former seasons. It goes up and down in interest. It's disappointing. And annoying. Have the writers and producers gotten tired?

The Good Wife has a deceiving title TV show. It should be called courtroom wives
Oh I had such a wonderful Marathon watching this season of The Good Wife. I don't think there's any show where cell phones are used more often then this show but I like it anyway. I find myself really liking some of the most unlikable characters like Eli Gold but I really do. People come and go and then pop up again in the later season. I think this is probably the most honest look at our attorney and judicial system. Money and not people are all that are cared about. It just makes sense from family experience where you feel helpless and hopeless because nobody cares. A real eye-opener with the best possible actors

Love the show came in later then what the arrival date was. The case was cracked and some of the broken plastic scratched up one of the disc. Lucky for me I have a store close by that repairs disc. Other then those things the show is great. My wife loves it

Good Wife 6
Since the stars of many series have become producers of their series, the story lines get better and better. This one is no exception. We do not watch any of the series on TV but wait for them to come out on DVD so we can sit and watch them through WITHOUT commercials. It is so enjoyable that way. This one is our favorite of the ones we buy each season's end. Good tension, twists and turns and interaction between players. It is amazing how much one can learn from any of these series if they are intellectual. This one is top notch.

MUCH TO ADMIRE BUT MAINLY IN THE FIRST HALF
The penultimate season. Two major storylines: lawyer Cary Agos facing a possible fifteen year prison sentence for allegedly aiding drug traffickers; Alicia Florrick's bid to become State's Attorney. Amongst issues to come under close scrutiny are downloading, hacking, attitudes to gay marriage, gun control, ballot rigging.Topicality is awesome. At one point a plot so resembles an actual event, an announcement had to assure viewers the episode concerned had been written and produced before an unarmed black man was gunned down by white police. Also chillingly exposed is illegal Chicago police activity currently taking place.22 episodes. Much that is good, equal to the show at its best. As ever, it fascinates to see the detailed delving into legal and political processes . A corrupt State's Attorney is about to be ousted, Alicia and her opponent Prady both representing integrity (David Hyde Pierce excellent). The two hope for a clean campaign, but are subjected to mudslinging, dirty tricks and lies (all reminiscent of electioneering this year both at home and abroad).Sadly the show meanders after the Election, far too much attention paid to Kalinda's problems. Although a popular character, the emphasis on her seems to throw everything off balance, the result not really satisfying. To dwell, though, on the positive! Often scripts are great, the cast on fine form. As Alicia, Julianna Margulies is superb as the good wife with a dodgy husband (Peter still up to his tricks). Sympathy grows for Matt Czuchry's Cary, especially as a guilty verdict seems increasingly likely. As Diane, Christine Baranski continues to impress. Humour abounds, often provided by highly manipulative Alan Cumming's Eli, he now with a daughter equally adept at scheming - sometimes against him, which adds to the fun.Illuminating bonuses are well worth a look.Overall? Still quality fare, but in need of a firmer sense of direction.(By the way, learnt in passing: be very careful what you put in emails!)

A drop in standard from the previous excellent seasons.
A bit unfair to title my review of Season 6 'a drop' : perhaps 'different' would be more apt.Often leaves the usual TGW format of each episode centering around a new court trial, albeit that everything becomes resolved in the course of a few days when we know that such actions can take months to finalize. We accept that, it is only television and a resolution gives us the viewer satisfaction and closure. The main thread of this season is Cary's (Matt Czuchry) prosecution and his attempts to avoid disbarment and prison. Also a run by Alicia (Julianna Margulies) to become state attorney, her campaign orchestrated by characters who didn't come up to the high standards set by Eli Gold (Alan Cumming) when he was chief of staff of Peter's (Chris Noth) run to become Governor. In my opinion.Highlight of the season for me was the 'romance' between the flamboyant but ditzy Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) and Josh Perotti (Kyle MacLachlan) which was beautifully played out over several episodes and showed the genuine comedic genius of both actors. The scents of baby lotion and 'Old Spice' play their parts. In my opinion. The usual favourites are all there including Louis Canning (Michael J Fox) once again scene-stealing on every occasion he is in shot of the camera. The writers know what they've got in this National Treasure and know how to use him. If it gives this disabled actor work I'm all for it. It's a long way from 'Casualties Of War' & 'Back To The Future'.A hint at the end that Alicia may team with Fox in the episode 'Wanna Partner?'????? Just my opinion.22 episodes, 900 plus minutes, each of the 6 discs have special features not viewed by this reviewer (I buy a dvd for the show not special features so I would never denigrate a product for lack of special features), English subtitles for the hearing impaired. A warning on the dvd jacket about 'strong sex' ---- probably a reference to Kalinda's (Archie Punjabi) activities who is in and out of bed with both sexes. I've never been sure how much that adds to the show.

still a great series
If you have come this far with The Good Wife then you already know it is a very impressive series. The only possible reason for uncertainty is doubting if it can continue at the level of season 5. Obviously there are several emotionally charged reasons why 5 was a hard season to beat and maybe 6 doesn't quite match it. However, it is a great season none the less, the acting remains superb, the design impeccable and the story-lines compelling. So, if you are wondering if it is worth getting, don't hesitate- you wouldn't want to miss it-

website incorrect information
I went on to the site asking for THE GOOD WIFE -SEASON 7 -this area identified itself on amazon as series 7 and certain of the choices were for that season.I went ahead and made a quick order NOT realising that certain of the choices were NOT for sees 7 but had been placed incorrectly under that heading, they were in fact for sees 6 which I have already got.NO opportunity to cancel even though I spotted this shortly thereafter and so will have to try to return item. This has put me off trusting this sites reliability does nobody check what is on under each category?

Great Service
I bought this second-hand from Smith@UK on the Amazon Marketplace. The first DVD in the set had a corruption. When the supplier read my review they sent me a brand new DVD set. That is good service!Oh! the good wife? the plots are getting more incredible but the tempo and acting are amazing. I hope the next series has more court room stories. This series was more about Alicia's back story and corruption in Cook County.
