No, the spout has to be in. However, it will not spill as it can only pour gas when the tip is pushed forward when fueling.

Q: Is this ok for Diesel fuel?

You could put diesel in it, but they also sell the yellow colored version of the same can, which is the one you should use for diesel fuel. Red for gas, Yellow for diesel. Then there's no confusion resulting in you putting the wrong fuel in the wing vehicle.

Q: Will the old fashion spout still fit ths can, or did they modify the threads?

The threads are pretty standard, but you have to buy the old style spout if you have one?
