Disappointed, but does an adequate enough job
I made the initial mistake of thinking this tool would be useful for centerlining 2x4's since one of the images showed the (exterior) length to be 3.9 inches my brain said, "oh, well a 3.5 inch 2x4 should fit in that easily". Clearly i was mistaken. However, i was barely... BARELY... able to fit this over a 1x3 (2.5 nominal). I had to take 320 and 1000 grit to sand down the inside of the pegs enough to get it to slip on, and even with a smooth edge, it refused to slide, effectively giving me a wobbly line like i was drunk or had parkinson's when i drew it. The center pencil holder won't hold a traditional #2 Ticonderoga pencil, but it likes mechanicals fine. Except mechanical pencils run out of lead quickly and require you to remove it, click the pencil, and reset it, making this thing borderline useless, if not inefficient. It did come in handy though when i was mapping out peg-joints for a cabinet, as i could pop it on my 1x3's and mark reference points to come back with a straightedge and run my final line with.

centering is fine; both measurement sides seem to be identical
this product seems to be well designed and made, however the measurement sides seem to be identical and do not correspond to the inch markings. A normal pencil fits just fine and center marking is easy to do, however the two sides seem to be identical. whaqt is up?????

Simple, yet accurate center finder
Easily finds and marks centers on pieces up to 2-1/2" wide. Convenient stepped scribe gauge for offsets. Strong magnet on one leg makes it easy to stow under the table saw. Buy one, you won't regret it.

The patient died.
Used for scribing center lines. Because of the design it failed to work very well. One reason being the center grip that holds the pencil was too big to hold the pencil very well. I actually ended up putting glue on one side of that center grip to reduce the size of the grip. Got a nice snug fit after that but... in my case unless one is using an exceptionally strong “lead” it either breaks too easy or the line it scribes can barely be seen. It far easier and more accurate to simply scribe a center line using a straight edge. This piece of plastic was mostly useless.
