Great little chain cleaner
I decided to get this because I was tired of my Park tool chain cleaner clamps breaking. From the old style and even the new style of clamp. The Park chain cleaner worked great and I had no issues with it cleaning my chain. The problem I had is the lame, cheap clamps they used to close the top & bottom of the cleaner. Park sells replace meant part kits for the cleaner but not replacement clamps. Wouldn't have mattered cuz the weak, cheap, & lame plastic that held the clamp is what would break every time after a few uses.I saw this one after an online search and saw that it didn't have any clamps that could break off and have the cleaner be useless. I really like this little cleaner. I say little cuz it is much smaller in size then the Park. That being said, It cleaned just as good using less chain cleaning fluid. It slides and comes apart very easy by sliding and clicking into place. The handle does the same and locks the top & bottom together. The internal brushes all come out and are very easy to clean. The only thing this didn't have that I wish it came with is a magnet on the bottom to help catch the metal filings from the chain when cleaned. To fix this I took the one off my Park cleaner and super glued it to the bottom of this one & it worked perfectly.

Performs well
Used 3 times so far, with single speed bikes. It was easy enough to use (though I still needed a 2nd person's assistance). With a multi-speed bike, I'm sure it'd be even easier to use, and can be employed by 1 person.Almost all parts are removable, which makes the cleaning process quite easy. It's all plastic, but tough, ABS-ish plastic. Certainly didn't look like it was about to get break at any point. The wheels/brushes are located very close to the bottom of the container, which minimizes the degreaser consumption. BTW. instead of overpriced, bike-specific degreasers, I'd strongly recommend Zep Citrus degreaser (available on Amazon for ~3$) for use with this product. I've read about it in bike forums, and indeed it's every bit as effective as the expensive alternatives I used in the past. For chain-cleaning, instead of choosing between the traditional approach (with rags and brushes) and cleaner-machines, I prefer to do a combination of the two. These cleaners are quite handy to get 95% of the job done, but occasional speckles of grime/grease located in weird angles invariably escape the mechanism, thankfully those are easy to spot and attack directly with a brush/rag.

Better than a rag!
I'm riding a cheap road bike from the late 70s/early 80s that sat gathering dust in someone's garage for about 30 years, but shamefully it took me almost two years to realize I should probably clean out my chain and derailleurs. First I tried with a rag and some degreaser, but I just ended up making a mess. The name brand chain cleaner was unreasonably expensive (really, I only paid $100 for the bike itself) so I took a chance on this off-brand version.I use a bit of Simple Green and run the chain through a few times, then go through with a toothbrush for any bits the cleaner missed. As other reviewers have mentioned, it would be nice if there were a magnet to collect the metal filings at the bottom of the unit but if I cared that much I could probably attach one myself. I've only used the unit once but so far so good!

Meh . . . Not For Me - Messy & A Pain To Use
Gave it a try. Pretty messy to use and not sure I will ever take off the shelf to use it again. Short & simple: Found it a pain-in-the-rear to use and not sure it was THAT effective at providing a good chain cleaning.(Edited) I have found that an old toothbrush is more effective and probably uses less cleaner/lube product than this item! Just lay a shop towel or paper towel over your chain stay to protect it and protect the tire/wheel from any mess . . . Simply 'scrub' the chain with a toothbrush. Now I have a CLEAN, well-lube chain! This is my preferred cleaner/lube and it works like charm on both a road bike & hybrid road bike: Rock' N' Roll Absolute Dry Chain Lube, 16oz. Bottle

Cheap and effective
First, it is cheap, so the plastic is cheap and fragile. So be careful when you use it. I put simple green and washed it with this. It was not 100% effective, but cleaned the dirt in the chain fairly well. I could see simple green becoming coffee without cream after using it.I used to wipe chain with rags, it took a long time and ineffective. This did a great job. It's cheap, if you don't have any other good idea, just buy this. Definitely better than nothing.

Can't be beat for the price!
This does the job of the more expensive ones for a fraction of the price. No instructions come with this tool, so check out you-tube for guidance. The internal brushes and gears all drop right out for easy clean up, so take a picture of how they all go together before that happens to you by accident! You will also want to have a parts cleaning bucket handy to clean this tool up after you use it.Does not include cleaning solvent. It will splash some greasy spots around so don't clean your bike chain in the living room! Take it outside and put down newspaper or a scrap of cardboard. No other chain cleaners are any better in this regard. Can't be beat for the price!

Some knock-offs can't cut it.
I ordered this because it looks identical to the Performance Spin Doctor version I'd been using for years, the only difference being the grey color of their plastic compared to this blue. It doesn't come with a fill line indicator either, but it was pretty easy to figure out. The problem seems to be that the brush setup, or configuration of the wheels, doesn't really do a good job of scrubbing the chain clean. When pedaling backwards there isn't much resistance, like the chain is just cruising through and getting wet. The smoking gun is the remaining cleaner left in the reservoir doesn't turn nearly as black and gunky as the Perf version does.If you order this, keep lots of rags ready to mop up the semi-cleaning job this tool does. Because that's what's going to do most of the funk removal, which really doesn't address what's at the heart of chain cleaning, mainly what's in between the pins and deep down in there.
