## Description

Authentic Original™ 2-Eye Boat Shoe Best known for boat shoes that have logged more miles of open ocean than any other brand, the Sperry Top-Sider story began on a raw winter day in New England. When avid sailor and hobbyist inventor Paul Sperry let his dog Prince out for his daily exercise, he noticed that the cocker spaniel was remarkably stable, even at a full run on the snow covered, icy crust. Paul raced back to his laboratory to begin working. Using pieces of rubber, a razor blade, and an ordinary sneaker, Paul had soon pieced together the prototype of the world's first boat shoe. Subsequent designs yielded the original Sperry Top-Sider now known as the Authentic Original. Since 1935, Sperry Top-Sider has been the leading brand of footwear for those who love the water. From its introduction of the world's first siped rubber outsole for non-marking traction, to its advanced technical fabrication to combat the elements, Sperry Top-Sider remains the vanguard of high-performance amphibious footwear. Available around the globe in fine independent, marine, and department stores, Sperry Top-Sider is the official footwear of the U.S. Sailing Team, Zodiac Academy, the World Billfish Series, and the Shimano Fishing Tour.

Review: Just got this shoe, looks nice and fits comfortably - I won't be able to give a fully detailed review because I just picked this shoe up about two hours ago. This will be more of a first impressions review. I've wanted to get Sperrys for a while now because a huge percentage of my friends have them, I just never got around to it. This weekend I was waiting in the shoe section for someone so I tried on some Sperrys. I liked the way they looked, so I decided to go ahead and order some a few days ago. I debated for two days between the Sahara and Oatmeal color. I ended up getting the Sahara, and I could not be more pleased with the color. I was hesitant about getting it because of the desertcart picture, which is misleading. In the picture the color looks like a reddish dark brown, but in reality they are a more tan version of the Oatmeal, or a light brown, which is exactly the color I wanted. I also ordered them a half size below my usual shoe size because that was the overwhelming suggestion in what I had heard about Sperrys. People said they stretch out when you break them in, so it is recommended to get them in a smaller size than your usual size. After I got them, I tried them on and walked around for a bit and they were pretty comfortable. They will need some breaking in, but for day one they were pretty good. Also, I was pleased with how they look because I was wearing some stupid looking pants today for a Halloween prank and even on those the shoes looked pretty good so they must look nice when worn with normal pants. The best part about these shoes is that you can wear them with pretty much anything and they will look nice. I have seen my friends wearing them with jeans or khakis and they look good. They are casual enough that you can slip them on with some jeans or shorts, but not so casual that you can't wear them khakis. My friends also wear them with khakis and they look good on those too. Overall, these shoes look good and from what I can tell, they are comfortable so far. As for whether they are worth the price tag (usually around $80 I think, mine were $75), that just varies from person to person. In my case I had a bunch of desertcart money from gift cards I've gotten, so it wasn't a big deal. Also, I really like the way they look so in my opinion my purchase was worth it. For a pair of shoes $80 is fairly expensive, so I cannot give a definite yes or no answer as to whether or not they are worth it. If you are looking for comfortable shoes that can go with many different types of clothing, definitely consider these shoes.
Review: 32 years and still work great - I bought these identical shoes 32 years ago in San Diego, CA. They are just as comfortable then as they are now. The pictures show quite the wear, but notice that the leather seams are intact, the tread is still on (albeit with holes in the bottom) and the laces are not broken. I've played soccer in these shoes (pro tip: don't do this), traveled abroad (easy on/off at airport security), lounged at home and --yes-- been on sailboats with them. Expensive? Yes. Worth every penny? Absolutely. Get off your dime and get the real Sperry Topsider. Anything else is a cheap substitute. (Note: the pictures are not what I bought recently on desertcart. They are pictures of the shoes before desertcart was invented.)

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Do you have to ties the laces or are these slip-ons? The pictures are not consistent.**
A: You can tie them tight each time you put them on but most people tie a loose hard knot one time and wear them as slip-ons.

**Q: Considering buying these from seller 'one nation premium'.. has anyone purchased from them? is it the real Sperry shoe or a knockoff?**
A: So, I contacted Sperry and they state unless shoes on here list they are Sold by them “Sperry” or Amazon, do not buy them because anyone else is not an “Authorized reseller of Sperry”. Sperry also states they cannot and will not warranty shoes sold by anyone on Amazon.com other than “Sperry” or Amazon listed as the seller.

**Q: the ad shows 10 1/2 but it does not say which width. how can i purchase if they do not specify width**
A: What is the XW width.

**Q: My husband wears 8 1/2 a or narrow. what is 2a?**
A: I'm not sure my husband wears a 13 wide, so I got him a 13W and it fit perfectly. Maybe just try getting a half size smaller for your guy, because Sperrys always stretch?

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Awesome if youre informed
*by D***O on November 9, 2014*

I finally bit the bullet and bought some Sperrys since they were on sale in a very versatile color (Sahara). Before purchasing I read reviews and sizing information so instead of getting an 11 as usual, I got the 10.5. Out of the box, they were really snug, to the point I thought of returning them for an 11 but reading before hand told me to wait about 1-2 weeks as I break them in and they loosen up to my feet. I wore them around the house (with socks) for about 2 days before they started loosening up to my liking. I read that they can easily rough up your Achilles tendon and leave blisters/soreness until they loosen up. I decided to take them to school on the 3rd day (with socks) and by the end of the day, sure enough, the achilles tendon of my sock was ripped to shreds, leaving only a small amount of thread hooked together. I was in shock because if I didnt wear any, that couldve been my foot! But alas after that day, I continued to wear socks and noticed the holes getting smaller and smaller. Im writing them about a week after I got them and they no longer rip up my socks. I doubt I will wear them without socks as I get swamp feet but the common go to for fashion is to wear them without. Anyway, 9/10. The only thing I dont like about the shoe is the overwhelming desire to destroy it's wearer's achilles tendon. Get them, be cautious for about a week, then enjoy.
