K&F CONCEPT 55mm Variable ND8-ND2000 (3-11stop) Waterproof ND Lens Filter

Great tool for getting proper exposure in broad daylight. Really loving the stop reduction range and I haven't noticed any color shift. There is one thing to note: the last two stops introduce vignetting and it's pretty noticeable but it's an easy fix just buy a fixed ND (NDs 8-64) and stack this on top to use lower stops on this one. It doesn't take away a star imo and I appreciate this sm as it allowed me to stop worrying about gear and starting documenting my life with my wonderful camera. I definitely would recommend this to anyone starting out videography as it's easy to use, affordable and long lasting thanks to its metallic build

I wanted to be able to shoot off camera flash without having to use HSS (high speed sync), so i did a little research and came to the conclusion that I needed an ND Filter. There are a lot of options out there but I knew the price point I was comfortable staying in and this filter was the best blend for versatility (3-11 stops) and price. I didn't see the benefit in getting an ND filter with a smaller stop range such as 3-5 or 7-11 etc. This ND filter covers the entire range in one package. And the adjustment ring feels high quality and has really good feedback when stopping down or up. I saw some people complaining about the grid pattern you get sometimes when stopping down on other ND filters, but I haven't experienced that problem. This ND filter has been nothing but perfect for me. I was able to shoot at 11 AM with with harsh light and overpower the sun with my flash for a recent shoot while staying under 1/250 sec. I definitely recommend this ND filter if you need to stop down for whatever type of photography you're into. The only issue you may have with this ND filter is trying to use a lens hood with the filter as they may not fit with one another.

Have had no quality issues - no mounting problems, smooth operation, and haven't seen any sharpness issues as a few others have noted. BUT do get severe darkening at the both edges, say 10-20% into the image at both sides at highest setting. Nothing at lowest setting and not that detectable halfway, but forget about using this at highest setting. Now I didn't really notice it when shooting against uniformly dark(ish) subject but became very apparent with white background. I've attached 3 photos shot of Canon 90D and Canon 24-105mm L IS II lens at 24mm at f11, 1/100sec, and Auto ISO (ISO indicated on photo) all against a bright sky. All photos processed in Photoshop Elements using the auto adjustment button. Note that the mid setting only caused ISO to go from 100 to 200 perhaps indicating that the markings on the filter aren't linear. I would have expected the mid point to be about 7 stops. Now external reviews gave this filter very high marks. So did some further testing with the above lens and also a super wide angle lens. On the 24-105mm at 55mm and 105mm, examining the photos closely, I could see a very slight effect at the full setting on the sky photos. If taking photos with a background with lots of midtones, say the classic photo of a stream in a forest, would not be noticeable. On a Canon EF-s 10-24mm, at 10mm from minimum to midway, there is detectable darkening at the edges, but not so bad that you couldn't to use the image depending on the subject. At maximum setting, totally unusable. At 24mm, its ok up to mid point, but at full setting you can see the darkening at the corners. Bottom line, the filter is good. I first gave it 3 stars, but based on the above further testing, moved it to a 4. You're going to have to do some thorough testing with a specific lens and if a telephoto lens, over its full focal length range. You just can't put it on your lens and expect good results. This may be enough to keep less serious photographers from buying it.

I bought this and the Kodak 52mm ND filter for my Moondog Labs Anamorphic Lens and shot on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I thought I could save $14 by settling for the cheaper Kodak ND filter but the image quality couldn't compete with the K&F one. Compared to the K&F filter, the Kodak has a greener cast, washes out colors, isn't uniform, and X-patterns A LOT earlier than the K&F Concept so the Kodak is not true ND2000. I went out on a bright day and with the Kodak filter I couldn't even get the highlights to be saved before a severe X-pattern started showing up. Locked shutter to 1/48 and ISO to as low as possible. The K&F filter also X-patterns a lot nicer too. When the K&F starts showing the X-pattern, it actually looks like a nice vignetting because it's so smooth. The Kodak filter looks too harsh like a hard X. No edge feathering (I don't know if that makes sense). I don't know how to explain it but you can buy both and see for yourself. The X is really wide and smooth on the K&F and it's even hard to tell it's X-patterning when you start reaching it's limit. Another thing I noticed is that the Kodak filter doesn't darken the entire frame. The left and right edges are brighter than the center whereas the K&F is uniform. I really wanted to like the Kodak as it comes in better packaging, but the filter just doesn't perform well. I LOVE the aluminum packing Kodak used for their filter, but the K&F Concept ND filter is the CLEAR WINNER.

I've used it once and I paired it with a 10 stop ND filter with this and I was able to set my camera set at 30 seconds, f11 and ISO 50 in the middle of the day but with the 10 stop I could only get it to 10 seconds, f11, ISO 50. I was surprised to see that when I got home to edit the photos there was no noticeable loss in sharpness with both ND filters on and this being a variable ND filter they're notoriously known to be less sharp than a constant ND filter. I can't wait to test this out on a waterfall but being that it's summer in San Diego right now I'll have to wait to try it out but along the coast I prefer the 10 stop ND filter and being able to drag that shutter longer. The front of this variable ND filter is quite large so your lens hood won't fit on there which can be an issue with unwanted lens flares but the K&F 10 stop ND filter I used with this you're able to mount the lens hood still. I received this filter free of charge to test it out so take my review with a grain of salt but if you do choose to get this I highly recommend getting a 10 stop as well because you'll be limited to 2-3 second shutter speeds with this alone at it's darkest setting in the middle of the day where the sun is bright like it is here in Southern California. I forgot to mention that there are notches on the side and tells you the minimum - maximum darkness and each stop between so there isn't any guess work involved but I do like the fact that I was able to set my settings I wanted and just rotated the front element until my camera read that I was properly exposed.

This ND filter works great! Very high quality! I have no issues with it.

Maybe there are quality control issues, but i don’t have the problems others claim with this variable ND. Slight ‘X’ at max effect in some conditions but I did not plan to use it at the extremes. A little color shift but that is to be expected. Maybe a slight softening but nothing that can’t be adjusted in post processing. I bought it primarily for video outdoors so any softness is ok. Overall, I am pleased and recommend it. If you find a problem, just have it replaces. I suppose there could be some quality-control issues. Be aware that it can get stuck to a plastic adapter ring.

I was skeptical purchasing a filter that was on the cheaper end, and boy did this deliver! Bought for a vacation to capture long exposures in direct light and it works great! Adjustable apature ring, highly recommend!
