This product has changed the way I work. I means the difference for me with my physical limitation.

I have a unique physical limitation: I cannot sit in a chair due to a surgical injury. I work full time in a reclining position at home on my chaise. I have two laptops, and using a regular bed tray was highly cumbersome for switching laptops and getting up and down. I imagined in my mind a product with a pole next to the chaise that would swing the two laptops around as needed, but it took me over a year to stumble upon this product.=== HOW I USE THE PRODUCT ===I use the Altec VF-AT-NK Focus Monitor Arm Single for one laptop and the pole assembly (VF-AT-NBC), which includes a second arm and stand for the second laptop. The pole assembly includes an arm without a stand. It is necessary to purchase both the VF-AT-NK and the VF-AT-NBC to use two laptops. When I got both units, I removed the NBC arm without the stand and slid the NK arm with stand on the pole assembly in its place. That stand arm sits on top of the other stand arm, so that laptop is higher by about 2". I'll call it the "upper laptop" below. The pole assembly is designed to sit on a desk, so it is not long enough to use on the floor, and Altec does not sell just the pole alone. My husband attached the bottom of the pole to a length of galvanized pipe and used a pipe fitting to secure it. He painted the pipe with silver paint to match the NBC pole. He attached the bottom of the pipe to a wooden platform that he painted to match the floor and put a large weight on top of the platform to steady everything.=== HOW THE PRODUCT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE ===I know that I'm not the typical user, but I can honestly say that this product has changed my life. I used to feel trapped under my tilting bed tray when I was working, so I didn't get up much and couldn't very quickly. Now I can simply move my laptop out of the way and get up whenever I want or need. I can easily switch from laptop to laptop or even work on both at once. I can turn it at an angle and watch TV with the family when before I couldn't even see the TV when I was on the computer.=== REVIEW OF THE PRODUCT ITSELF ===As to the product itself, it is sturdy, well designed, and attractive in any decor. It is brushed stainless steel or possibly heavy aluminum with chrome rings that allow you to adust the height of each laptop or monitor. This is the real deal and not some cheap metal that is going to fall apart in a year. I expect to hand this stand down.It holds my Toshiba Qoismo 8 lbs., 17.3" laptop with no problem. I was worried about the silver supports that hold the laptop at the bottom of the stand because they looked like they would be impossible to type over. However, they each move sideways in a 4" groove. I move them whenever reposition the laptop, and they don't touch my wrists when I'm typing.I have noticed a shaking of the stand; however, if I reposition the laptop on the stand (usually closer to the pole), the shaking stops or is greatly reduced, even on my Qosimo. (It stops completely on my lighter Dell Latitude.)The stand would be perfect if it did not have any shaking and if it had more tilt, both up and down. I have to push the upper laptop further from me to get a good angle for my wrists because I need about an additional half inch of downward tilt. (I don't think this tilt would be a problem on a desk.) Also, I wish that the laptop tilted up horizontal so that when closed, I could use it for a temporary desk without pens and such sliding off. (It is just at a slight angle.) These two small issues are easily overlooked because even after several months, I thank my lucky stars that I found this product. It has made such a difference in my life. I am truly grateful.=== UPDATE ===I did have an issue with the front edge of the tray that holds my heavier Qosmio splitting at the end of one of the silver support tracks. Amazon overnighted me a new arm in accordance with the warranty of the product, and I sent back the arm with the damaged tray after I got the new one, so I wasn't without an arm at any time. I am more careful now to ensure that the laptop is always straight on the tray with equal weight on each support so this damage doesn't happen again. I am still just as pleased with the product.

Good quality

Good quality as advertised, not terribly sturdy but holds 1 or laptops which is what I want!

Notebook is titled to one side when I placing it on this stand. Other reviewers commented about some adjustments to make it straight but I do not see way to adjust this...Now I am using it to move notebook behind display and to free desk, I am using notebook in clam-shell mode, so this not a big deal for me.

expensive, however, its the best I have used

Sometimes you pay more and and do not seem to get the value you expected out of an item.In this case, its pricey, but it really works quite well, heavy metal components; when you tighten something it stays tight. It would be nice to have bit more degrees of freedom on the notebook mount itself, and sure I would like it to be rock solid (which it is not) but I have no fear at all that it will suddenly shift or that the notebook would drop off.make sure to keep an eye on which kit you are buying, some include the main mounting pole, and some do NOT...pricey, but it works well...

Solidly made, only a few shortcomings

This arm works very well for my 15" macbook pro. It's construction is solid and I trust it with my expensive mac. These arms look great and are strong. Plus they have several well designed features - like a built in place to store the alen wrench you need to adjust them. However, it isn't quite as solid as I'd like. I'm focusing on the improvements I'd like to see, but don't be put off - this really is a 4+ star product.* It wiggles as I type* the Arm isn't tight enough around the pole - it has about 1-5 degrees of play. This isn't too bad - gravity pulls it down to the lower end of the range, but it means the laptop sits crooked - enough that I notice. This can be resolved by taking apart the arm just below the laptop and loosening the swivel screen so you can rotate the laptop tray without moving the arm - don't overlossen, you still want this adjustment stiff. Small swivel adjustments in this away allowed me to bring my laptop back to perfectly level.* The "feet" that stop the laptop from sliding off are way too tall from my macbook - by more than 2x. I've found a way to position them so they don't get in the way too much, but still bump in to them often. It would be nice if there were two sizes of feet to choose from.* You can't slide the arm up and down the pole easily. I was hoping for a quick release mechanism so I could adjust the hight if I wanted to sit or stand. It takes a lot of effort to get it into position and locked down. Once you get it right, you won't want to adjust it again.

Works... and looks good.

Not much I can say about this outside of speculate on it's quality. It holds my laptops, I started with one a couple of years ago, I now have 4 of these. I would definitely recommend these as an addition to the Visidec if you already have one.

Okay

Does the job, but very flimsy/plastic feel.

Far from great

This is well built yet surprisingly badly executed, the arm moves laterally which means the laptop placed on the shelf leans to one side - their doesn't seem to be any logical reason for it to be this way, the ring that goes over the pole is just too large and so it leans - super annoying more so given the cost of this product.
