Gerber Prybrid Pocket Knife Multitool 8-in-1 Box Cutter, Bottle Opener,Grey

I usually carry a knife for self defense and a box cutter for opening packages. Lately I decided to switch to pepper spray for self defense, and to use my box cutter as my primary knife. I also now carry a Leatherman Wave+ if I need a bigger knife, and in my bag, I have a Cold Steel tanto.Anyway this thing isn't exactly huge but it is way bigger than my old Workpro folder. This is undesired but it is not a deal breaker. I do think a thicker knife is safer and more comfortable to use. It still fits in my 5th pocket but it sticks up.My next complaint is there is no pocket clip. I mean really WTF.It is also somewhat gritty when I slide it. I tried to oil it, but it had a minimal effect.Pros:It's sturdy, full metal tang, the pry bar is a function I actually use often to open stuck jar lids, paint cans, etc. I love that it has a nail puller and I believe it would pull a nail.The reason I wanted this over the work pro is it's one hand opening. I wish it was assisted but the slider ain't bad. I also could not fund any other small, single handed one hand opening utility knives that were not made by a walmart exclusive brand.Anyway it works, it's sturdy, it's well made, I think it will last many moons if used responsibly. I have seen photos of some broken ones. I think it may have occurred from using it fully extended or from using it too roughly. If I need to do something serious I have a big utility knife for hard work.My preferred choice of blade is the Rapid edge serrated. Not ideal for slicing but does a bang up job of cutting through cardboard.

Great tool. I use it daily. Nice and slim, and swapping blades is pretty easy. Would recommend if you need a compact and convenient utility knife.

This is a surprisingly robust EDC utility knife, but I find it a little lacking once I actually started using it.The good: it is sturdy, compact and functional.The not-so-good: lacks pocket clip, lacks intermediate stops, heavy, thicker than necessary, no-spare blade.Other reviews cover the good points, I'm not going to re-iterate those here but the positives are very good.Lacking a pocket-clip is also well covered in the reviews.What I didn't notice was that unlike most full-size utility knifes, it lacks intermediate stops. Most knives of this type have locking stops at 1/4" and 1/2" to make it safer to open boxes without accidentally cutting the contents. To my mind this is the most glaring defect and the primary reason for me to subtract a star.The other issues are pretty minor, but do detract from EDC usefulness. I was surprised how heavy and bulky it was, particularly how thick. It seems like it could be ~3 mm thinner without compromising the strength at all, just use thinner scales and slightly decrease the thumb-depress opener, alternatively, it could be thinner on the adjustment side and then have a slot for a spare blade in the opposite side and net-out the same thickness.Finally, the slot where the blade comes out is pretty wide which gives the blade less lateral support. Perhaps this is on purpose to allow more flex when misusing the knife. But when something is titled prybrid, I would expect the knife to be a little bit stronger laterally so you could use it to prise open a gap to then apply the prybar on the other end.Overall it is a good tool, but I doubt I will use it daily. It will go into my car's center console or a secondary toolbox.

Can't go wrong with a Gerber. Slide in and out very smoothly. Blade is super easy to change. Is very heavy duty.

This device is perfect for home. In the middle of these Covid times, we have more boxes arriving at home. This utility knife is perfect. I put it in my pocket first thing in the morning and use it all day long. I used to carry a Benchmade or Spyderco around the house, but I hated cellophane tape residue on the knife. So I switched during Covid to carrying a utility knife so I can just use disposable blades. But most utility knifes are large and great for a worksite. This Gerber is the small, thin, light and durable. This is the perfect solution for a home based worker EDC. I also really appreciate the bottle opener, which is convenient as I get close to 5:00. The problem though is that the bottle opener doesn't always open the bottle cap the first time. You have to be precise in keeping the bottle opener hook under the side of the bottle cap or it will take two swipes at the bottle cap. This is a very minor concern though. This is the perfect tool to have on hand all day long if you are doing light work around the house. If you are on a construction site, you wouldn't use this as your primary utility knife.

Narrow height, wide dimensions are perfect for that small pocket above my RH jean pocket. G10 scales are the best. Safety... There's no way this blade will extend on it's own, unlike other EDC knives I've tried. I'm very bad at knife sharpening, so, having the ability to swap blades is a huge win.Pry bar - how did I get by without this??The only negative, and, this isn't the fault of the knife, it's probably avoidable if you buy the right blade but... The serrated blades I use rust up almost instantaneously. Also (again not Gerber's fault- ) the cord cutting slot does not work well with serrated blades. They BLAST through cardboard so I'm keeping them.Great value for your dollar, it's well made, well designed, just buy i!

Folding utility blades are great - way more useful than a traditional box cutter. Even better is a folding utility knife with extra features, like the pry bar, cord cutter slot, bottle opener, etc. This is still a Gerber, so it's not the highest quality. The retracting action is pretty gritty and friction heavy. You can see in the photos there's a lot of metal on metal friction, so I highly recommend some light drops of oil and just working the retractor whenever you get a chance to wear down the surfaces and make things smoother.But the glaring, unforgivable omission is that there's no pocket clip. For a knife that is clearly designed to fit into a pocket. Maybe Gerber ran out of parts - I don't know. So I added one myself. I harvested the pocket clip from my folding utility blade where the clip screws stripped out (lost one of the screws) and used these to put my own clip on this Gerber knife.The hardest part is dealing with the Torx screws on the Gerber. They are coated in thread lock that makes it really difficult, though not impossible, to remove the handle. Be patient and use good bits. I ruined two bits trying to loosen these screws.Eventually I got the handle cover off. I drilled a couple holes to fit the clip - used the remaining screws as pins - and coated the contact surfaces with CA glue to bring everything together. I was hoping to tap the holes for these screws to mechanically fasten, but the handle material was just too thin. I also had to drill one hole in a metal plate inside the knife to accommodate the length of one of the screws.So far it's been working really well. Hope this helps other people come up with even better solutions.

This little tool is awesome! Solid and fits the hand. What I really like about is that it uses a stand box cutter blade so if you are traveling by plane take out the blade and buy blades when you get where you are going.And it's Gerber.
