Couldn't put down; read in one day
I loved this new to me author's book! It kept me interested the entire time. It has mysteries, romance, time travel, gypsies and two characters I loved, especially together. At times it reminded me of Kate & Leopold and I guess that's why I was picturing Hugh Jackman as Charles.I was pleasantly surprised that it was a clean read, no curse words which modern romance books seem to be full of (and I don't read them for that reason) and Charles actually talked about God and went to church. It wasn't preachy nor religious; it was just the right touch.I'm excited to know there are at least two more in the series!

a twist on time travel
I liked the idea of this book. I loved Tori and Charles' interactions as they get toknow each other and compare the Londons of 2014 and 1854. We also getto know the different social norms and how that has changed since Charles'day. However, sometimes it dragged on and I would have to stop and comeback to it. On the whole, I enjoyed it. Worth a read.

Fun adventure through London past and present, love the characters
I loved adventuring through all the places in present-day and past London, the strong female character and charming British guy (from 1854). This is clearly written by an author who loves London—and as a reader you get to journey with her and experience the delight in all the tucked away corners of the city. I enjoyed the love story and the likable, well-developed characters, but this book is so much more than its engaging plot. The accurate, rich history and sense of place made it even more interesting and enjoyable. I do not read a lot of fiction, and when I do I appreciate quality writing. This book has it--I could not put it down (and can’t wait for the next one)!

Love this London Romance/Mystery Series💕
Oh my! I love this Travel back in Time Romance/comedy/mystery! It’s really a great fun book series that takes you back into a more romantic time period (of course each era has it’s minus and pluses) but I love dreaming of living in another period in time. Cleaner reading without a lot of very awful language or crass scenes. The story is written well and flows nicely. The novel can really send the reader into another world. I Loved reading the first book in the series so much that I bought the second and third book as well! Couldn’t be helped!📕

Light reading; story could have been stronger.
Could not get interested in the story. Lacks a good hook at the beginning to make it a page turner. At best a ho-hum romance novel. The author has writing skills and can make the story flow, but this one comes across as more of a YA romance. Characters are rather bland. Minimal drama and humor.Someone from the mid 19th century dropped into 21st century by accident would not be so accepting of sights, sounds, even language. It’s culture shock big time. He’s too complacent. Automobiles, electricity, airplanes, would be shocking, even frightening. Trying to explain the new world to him should be more frustrating because he would lack point of reference. Needs more “laugh out loud” moments when she does try to give an explanation or he attempts to use something. Could add real humor. She is too accepting of his sudden appearance. Seriously? Someone shows up through a doorway and you don’t freak out? Even if he does seem harmless. It’s just too fantastic or the character is too much of a believer in science fiction. Explanation of arrival is too sketchy. Would have been better with his backstory as a preface. Don’t feed reason for arrival and explanations in bits and pieces. Tedious. Sudden, unexplained appearance of bad guys really didn't work very well. Again, info in a preface would have helped.Love interest way too soon. Why should she get so interested so soon? Is she that desperate for a boyfriend? Supposed to an independent woman. If you want something light to read that won’t require much thinking then this will fit the bill.

Slow burn start but stay with it! It's worth it!
I have always loved time travel books! I started the book with high expectations and some very real bias towards liking it... So I was surprised that at the very start I was not instantly smitten with the book. Her smooth acceptance of him being from a different time and his even smoother acceptance of such a vastly different era threw me off. I was finding it difficult to get into the story at that point. They just went about the process of trying to unravel the mystery as if this kind of thing always occurs. It seemed almost too simplistic and created way more questions than were answered. HOWEVER, it didn't take long to get sucked into the story and mystery of his time-travel and the purpose of it. I truly enjoyed a book where, while they were instantly drawn to each other, they did NOT instantly fall into bed with each other. The negative review that she pouted that he was a gentleman and didn't jump her bones only illustrates how well he stayed himself and that his character shone through even in such an extremely impossible situation. If that reviewer had stayed with the story they might have seen that she was also portraying her part by exhibiting the behaviors of a modern, liberated, 21 century woman. The story explores their different perspectives and the characters do grow and bond beautifully as their adventures continue; all the while she learns to appreciated some of the finer arts of finesse and subtlety of his time, equally realizing that people are the same no matter which century they come from. He treats her like a found treasure and she comes around to valuing herself as that treasure with the anticipation for their future together. The story deepened as new characters were introduced. The mystery continue and right when you think you've figured it out - something unexpected happened. I'm glad that I didn't give up! I just finished Book 1 and will be buying Book 2 immediately as I want to continue their story and see where it leads. The hints at the end portend another round of adventures and I can't wait to delve into it!
