A standard 4 gallon trash bags fit perfectly inside with 2 inches to spare and fold neatly over the top of the basket. Cleaning with a disinfecting wipe is quick and easy as there are no oddly shaped corners or angles. The basket measures 8.5" by 11.5" across the top, then tapers down to 6.5"x10" at the bottom. It stands 12" tall. I actually took a tape measure to get those numbers, going by past answers it is possible that the size has changed in recent years. Bottom line, if you're looking for a small wastebasket, either for trash or recycling, this one works like a charm. It isn't meant to hold a full household's worth of trash, but it works well for this single person.

I was using a small basket that I got at a dollar store. It served my purpose but was so lightweight my cat kept knocking it over. After reading reviews, I bought this one and am so glad I did! It's a good size to put under the desk in my home office and is sturdy and better quality than I expected for the price. I had a different one in my cart which Amazon removed because they said it wasn't available anymore which worked out great because this one cost less. I highly recommend this wastepaper basket.
