Kershaw Emerson CQC-K Pocket Knives, Manual Opening Folding Knife with Wave Shaped Feature, Multiple Styles

Last year I went on a search for a good pocket knife since I like always having one on me for work. Tried 4 different brands. The tanto blade is easy to sharpen, the lockup is still tight and has held up being used as a pry bar throughout. I have a lot of the husky Tantos as well in my cars and throughout my house. For edc though something a little nicer is nice. This knife is nice, but still cheap enough I won’t be sad if I lose it. Only issue I have is the belt clip loosening. I put them back in with Loctite but they have loosened again over a half a year. Perhaps if they machined it in so it couldn’t wiggle somehow or tabbed it, idk. Small issue though for an otherwise great knife. Would recommend locktiting those asap though.

First Impression> I bought the cqc-8 and right out of the box it was very sturdy, very sharp, had no blade play and it locked up like a jail cell when snapped open. Even when using the “Disc open” on the top of the blade, you can snap it open in a blink of an eye. The knife just looks badass in general. Keep in mind> This knife is pretty much a "Self Defense" weapon so the chisel grind (that only comes on the CQC8) is not ideal for EDC use. However, I don’t think it completely hinders the knife for EDC use. 8Cr13Mov is just fine for steel. Also if ever used in self defense keep in mind this blade would be entered into evidence with all its menacing “skull logos” and Tactical badassness. Not what you want to have in that situation. But I digress… After Use> The wave feature is by far the best way to get a knife out fast. I don’t see how you can actually argue there is a faster way, seeing the knife is ALREADY open when it comes out of your pocket. This being said sometimes you have to be careful when pulling it out in public. It can be intimidating/scary for the “less weapon friendly" to behold. Final Thoughts> At work I carry a Spyderco Tenacious for my EDC chores. When I go out at night to walk my dog I take my CQC8. Though in all honesty, they both would work just fine, if swapped places. And I would hate to actually use a knife in a violent way. tl/dr> It looks great. It opens fast. And it’s sharp as hell. For what it is and what I spent, I think this knife deserves 4.5 stars.

*UPDATE* After carring around for almost a year now, im very use to this knife I don't worry about accidental deployment as much because it just feels second nature to me. The pocket clip is by far the sturdyest pocket clip on any knife I have carried even pricier knives don't compare. I would deffently recommend!!! Extremely sharp and reliable. I like the thumb disc better than a thumb stud after getting used to it. The knife feels to be better quality than the price tag feels a tad heavy in your hand which can be a good or bad thing given your preference. It has a very sturdy feel. The wave feature is amazing. Need to be a little careful when pulling it from your pocket at the end the day because of accidental deployment. But once, use to wave feature this knife is great.

I really love this knife. I own a RAT Worx full sized MRX for my EDC and love it, no question...but this Kershaw is really making its way into my daily driver slot. I am one of the types who like the chisel grind, so that part is great. The Emerson Wave feature is just amazing. It's my first blade with this feature and I am totally sold on it. The grip is solid with great texture. There is no side to side play with mine, maybe a slight flex but hardly noticeable. The blade came sharp, and in perfect condition. The design of the grip is very ergonomic and fits my hand excellent. I have better than average size hands. I can't speak to the durability of the blade yet as I haven't had the time yet to try and thrash it...I will beat on this thing for sure though, and update my review as I do. I am no knife expert by any stretch but I am starting a nice collection. This CQC is a great addition for my daily use blade. Highly recommend. I bought his knife for everyday carry a good while ago and have really put it to hard use. It is used daily for many tasks including quite a few this knife was probably not designed for (re: prying out heavy staples, batoning small wood for a fire, etc.). The blade is heavy and has stood up to abuse and functioned above my expectations, esp. for a knife at this price. Oh, and the wave feature is amazing. When you need to open your knife one handed (normally because you are leaned over into something you're working on holding the thing you need to cut with your other hand) it opens smoothly out of the pocket without having to look at what you are doing. The locking mechanism is solid and dependable even when stressed and the blade can be easily tightened with a screwdriver if there is ever any wiggle. The only thing that has loosened on this knife is the pocket clip and that is easily forgiven. As an aside, I also practice several blade based martial arts and having a knife that deploys so easily and with such speed is a true ace in the hole. This blade can be at the ready in the blink of an eye in either a hammer or reverse grip as you choose. It is not just a workhorse but can also be a quick and formidable weapon. The only thing I do not like (hence the four stars) is also one of the reasons I was attracted to the knife in the first place. The chisel edged blade is easy to sharpen and creates a very study edge for hard work, but the same features that attracted me to it also make it difficult to use for finer cutting or carving. I know I should not expect my one knife to be great at everything, but sometimes this blade profile is just not good at one of the most simple needs of a carry knife, finer whittling, cutting and shaving. I will definitely buy another knife in this line in the future. I have owned other Kershaws in the past and have always been pleased with my purchases. This crossover series with Emerson seems to be a complete winner for folks that actually use their knives and need something in an approachable price range.

I love this knife so much I’ve had 3 off them in the past 8 years. The first one was gifted to me but I lost it.. immediately had to buy another.. week later I found it and gave the new one to a buddy lol. Recently I lost it again and bought another replacement. Just to find the original again 🤣 These knives are worth it. The original one from 8 years ago is still in great shape and opens/locks and closes as nicely as the new ones do!!

Absolutely great knife. Was trying to find something similar to the other CQC I believe it’s called the “5K” (the one that has the Bowie edge). That one has the most ergonomic grip however this one now has the most ergonomic grip out of the CQC line of Kershaw knives. The reason being is the other Green model with the clip point edge does not have the best place for your thumb to go on the edge of the knife it’s more of a rounded edge there for when you plunge it into something hard it tends to drive a lot of recoil right on your thumb.. Versus this knife that has a flat bottom that allows you to drive and penetrate much harder especially with the tanto edge and not absorb a lot of recoil into your thumb. The ONLY thing I wish is that this was not a single honed edge knife. I wish it was double honed and I know it’s a “sharper edge” when it comes to single honed edges but still just for beauty and symmetry reasons it would’ve been nice. Also would love to see a slightly larger version of this with the same ergonomics but a tad bigger handle and color options with a 4” tanto. Still for people who don’t have any skill with a knife, stabbing would be more effective than slashing and this knife is designed just for that. 10/10 Kershaw and Emerson did a great job with this one. *I also wish it was better steel than 8CR13MOV which is garbage steel; hard and laborious to sharpen, but is pretty good at corrosion resistance. But that’s easily overlooked by all the other great and NECESSARY features of this particular knife.

I purchased this knife primarily because of the wave feature and I use it as my 'around the house' knife and it works well. I wish I could like it more but aside from the wave, which I wanted to test on a less expensive knife before spending the money on something like a Fox DART. I like the wave but I'm not a fan of the opening disc (I like flippers) or the chisel grind on the blade. The biggest negative about this knife is locking bar. It's hard to disengage the lock and close the knife with one hand. It can be done, but it takes some practice and a stronger-than-average thumb. The overall quality is good, however. The frame is very solid, there was zero blade-wobble, the lockup is consistently reliable and the handle scales are very robust. Another feature that I with all knife makers would embrace is the use of regular screws in the knife's construction; including a large screw for adjusting the blade tension. Most of my criticisms are subjective personal preferences so someone else might like this knife. It's a decent knife for the price (I paid about 30$).

Wer also kein Vermögen für ein "echtes" Emerson ausgeben will, sollte hier zuschlagen. Die Verarbeitung war bei meinem Messer durchweg gut und der Stahl (8Cr14Mov) ist durchaus brauchbar. Den Stern Abzug gibt es weil: - Die Verpackung beschädigt war. - Der Preis stark schwankt und teilweise zu hoch ist (Intervall 40-70€) - Der einseitige Anschliff nicht für alle Schneidaufgaben ideal ist

Está padre la navaja, ligera y las cachas tienen buen agarre. Ventajas: - El color negro la hace lucir muy bien y discreta. - El mango tiene un buen diseño, el soporte para los dedos pulgar en la hoja, y el índice en el mango, a la hora de sujetarla es excelente, el clip no molesta para nada al apretarla. - Las cachas tienen un acabado semi rugoso, lo que les da un buen agarre, sin resultar agresivo al tacto. Contras: Le pongo dos "peros": - La hoja no es de apertura asistida (eso quedó claro desde antes de comprarla), por lo que el mecanismo manual al abrirla, es un poco duro, espero que con el tiempo se afloje un poco; - El clip sujetador, realmente hace su trabajo, tanto para guardar y sacar la navaja de la bolsa del pantalón (uso jeans), batallas un poco, está demasiado apretado el clip para mi gusto, digo, ten la seguridad que no se te va a caer o resbalar de la bolsa por ningún motivo. Por último, y eso pasa con la mayoría de los cuchillos y navajas, la hoja no viene completamente afilada, así que habrá que darle una pasada en la piedra de asentar. Le pongo cinco estrellas, porque la relación calidad/precio es buena. Es un producto que puedes usar diariamente, sin miedo a que se dañe o se rompa, solamente tener un poco de cuidado, ya que tienden a desarrollar pies cuando las dejas solas y se van :-) Agrego unas fotos, espero les sea útil la reseña.

Llego a tiempo y completa. Mucho mas pesada de lo que esperaba pero nada extraordinario. El filo es malo pero lo solucione con una chaira. Es dura de abrir con una mano aun despues de aceitarla espero se afloje con el uso. Es bonita y si impresiona.

Es una buena navaja tomando en cuenta el precio, es una de la serie diseñada por Emerson pero construida por Kershaw. La calidad de los materiales es buena, sobre todo el mango de G10. El coating de la navaja en si es mas o menos fácil de rayarse, viene con buen filo pero con una piedra Arkansas fina y un asentador queda aún mas afilada. No le pongo las 5 estrellas pues la mía tiene un poco de juego en el pivote.
