Mind blown!!
We just received our new printer yesterday and I am beyond impressed with this printer thus far.We had two other printers; one is a 10 or so year old HP Officejet Pro L7680 and the other is an Epson Workforce 635. Both are higher-end inkjet printers. The HP has been used to death over it's life and still prints just fine, although scanning and faxing is frustrating because the ADF often miss-feeds. The Epson printer was hardly ever used and then stopped printing black altogether when we tried to use it again. So, we decided to get a laser printer to replace the Epson and chose this one for our home office after much researching. My first impression of this new printer is mind-blowing! Print quality is amazing. It is quiet and fast and has all the bells and whistles we could want (auto duplex, 2-sided scanning, large enough paper trays, etc.) All of this was pretty much expected from our researching, however, what we did not expect was how well and FAST it scans!! Our HP L7680 scans extremely slow over the network (I'm talking watching paint dry slow - at least a good minute or so per page). The M477fdn scanning is incredible; we had a 100-page document to scan and loaded the first 50 pages into the feeder and hit scan and watched as the page thumbnails started popping up every couple seconds and couldn't believe it. Less than two minutes and all pages were scanned; loaded the next 50 sheets and clicked to add pages and done and saved to PDF in short order! We are blown away by the speed of this thing and how well it handles large jobs.Love the touchscreen interface also and the easy of navigating and selecting options. It feels pretty much like using a tablet and works very well. One thing I did find annoying is that the instructions on how to open the box were inside the box! The carton has these plastic 'clips' at the bottom of each side that you open and remove and then the entire top of the box can be lifted off. However, they don't tell you this until you open the box and find a sheet of paper inside with these instructions. So, I had cut the tape and opened the flaps the normal way only to find there was a better and easier way, which also makes it much easier to remove the printer.Time will tell on durability and performance over time, however, at this point we give this a solid 5 stars. Will update if anything changes.

Seriously flawed product - Just say no to anything new from HP
I really wanted to like this printer but just can't. I used to be an HP reseller back in the LaserJet III and 4 days. Everything HP made back then was top notch but things have really slipped. I just retired an older Brother MFC unit (purchased because HP did not have anything like at that time) and replaced it with the M477fdn. What a mistake. I should have stuck with Brother. The Good:Print quality is good for the price, it is pretty quite, quick, and reasonably small for what it does. The Bad:Copies are substandard. They look like they came from a 1980 era copy machine. The specs clearly say the scanner is duplex (can scan both sides of a page at the same time) but NOWHERE does it state it ONLY works using HP's scanning utility. WTF? It can scan to network, why not duplex to network? The Ugly:I am on the third service call and second unit. When scanning from the ADF there is a huge amount of page skew. This is not due to ADF feeding. It is something in the engine.Copy or scan from the glass has slightly less skew (1.5-2mm vs 4-5mm ADF).The top half of my first unit was examined by the tech then replaced (second trip) only to have the exact same problem. He then ordered a new unit (a refurbish model showed up) and it has exactly the same problem. The tech has been great but the product sucks.I will have another conversation with the tech but most likely will be returning this to Amazon for a refund. The sucky part is I also purchased the 500 page lower paper tray but unfortunately not from Amazon so I am most likely out another $150 on top of all the time screwing around with this hunk of junk.Update as of 10/17/2016 - First I want to say that Amazon.com has been outstanding in helping resolve this issue. After two 'defective' units - my original Amazon order and the HP replacement unit - I processed a return to Amazon. I had a call immediately from the rep, He shipped a replacement unit overnight! Now that is service!Unfortunately this unit also has the scanning skew problem. I then located on the demo floor at an Office Max - SAME EXACT SKEW problem... This is clearly a poor design on the part of HP. I have since returned all of the units and am on the hunt for something that does not produce crooked scans.
