Surprisingly pleasant!
I read the Amazon reviews for the other listings for Belveder cod liver, and felt ready for an adventure. I tried my first can today, expecting it to resemble cod liver oil or shredded sardines. Nope! It was one intact liver that nearly filled the tin. The aroma slightly smelled like premium cat food. The texture was like custard. The flavor was like super mild tuna. So pleasant!I tried to drink various Carlson and Green Pastures cod liver oils for its health benefits and couldn't do it because of the horrid taste. After I enjoyed the liver, I even drank the oil that remained in the tin!I understand that one major difference between this product and cod liver oils is that this product is simply one liver placed in a tin with salt. It's cooked and sealed in the tin. Nothing is extracted. It's a natural whole food.I found the saltiness very mild and sufficient. You might want to check the sodium content to see if it's compatible with your preferences.I see that the price is fluctuating, so I added it to my list at the CamelCamelCamel website so I'll receive notifications when the price is what I want it to be.Please let me know if this review is helpful. Thanks!

Delicious highly recommend
I just got into canned cod liver. My first batch was from Les Mouettes D'Arvor Cod Liver and was absolutely delicious but the price ($9) was a bit steep and the tin wasn’t that packed. I bought a few different brands of cod liver to find a more affordable substitute. I heard Officer was good but I did not like it at all. This brand, Belvedere, is sooo much better and more on par with Les Mouettes but more densely packed. A small bit was grey but I don’t care that much. I highly recommend this one. Give it a try!

Just received (6 cans) -- produced in August 2023 and 'best before' August 30, 2028 ...
Production date (printed on the can): 30.08.2023 (i.e. August 8, last year)Best before: 30.08.2028... which means (I guess) that the livers have not shrunk yet, as their oilseeps out.P.S. I did not try it yet because I had my last can of Sanniti cod liver for lunch.----Update - Thursday, April 20thI just ate one can: big pieces of liver (4 or 5), not much oil. I added a few drops of vinegar (to enhance the taste)THIS IS THE ONE TO BUY !----------Second update - Friday, April 28, 2023The taste: It may be that my taste buds, getting old, are malfunctioning. All cod liver I have tried tasted very bland. Remedy: eat it with little cornichons (French type: Brunel or Maille), or with pickled vegetables ('pickles', pickled beets, ...), or put a few drops of balsamic vinegar on it. Note that one can makes a very good one-person meal (not including dessert of course).Third update - May 1st, 2023The can I had for breakfast contained several pieces, two of which seemed to have turned dark (i.e. a sort of greyish color instead of the usual pink). Not appetizing, so I did not eat these last two pieces. I have now only one Belveder can left; should i reorder this brand, or another one?

Different :) ... but seems high quality.
I like and eat sardines often and take small dose (teaspoon) of quality of cod liver oil daily. So when I saw the actual cod livers on Amazon, I just had to try them. It is a much milder taste than I was expecting. I can't said I like the taste and I can't say I don't. I am very open to trying new international foods. I think the reason I am not impressed but the flavor must be due to two things... (1) I really don't know the best way to prepare and serve these as I just eat them straight from the can like sardines. (2) it must be an acquired taste like many other somewhat off putting foods around the world. ... That said, I am glad I bought and tried them :)

Delicious!
Creamy. Like eating healthy foie gras. Yes, it is a fish-based product but subtly so. Best with a baguette and mild green onion and a glass of red wine. Useful review in this thread already alerts to calorie count. This is my supper on a busy day so actually a diet aid. But be aware that one tin packs 824 calories.

Mostly oil, gave me IBS attack
I ate the whole can in one sitting because it seemed like so little meat. I just dumped the whole can on a bowl of salad makings. I believe it caused me to have intestinal distress for about 2.5 weeks afterwards. I was advised to discard my remaining two cans. For me, it was a waste of money. I didn't give it fewer than 3 stars because it tasted OK, but there was almost more oil than meat in the can and my intestinal issues are not the fault of the company.
