⚓ Command the Depths of History!
The Hunted Board Game is a tactical solitaire experience that places players in command of a German U-Boat during WWII. As a standalone sequel to the acclaimed The Hunters, it allows for an expansive gameplay experience spanning from 1939 to 1945, making it a must-have for history buffs and strategy enthusiasts alike.

LOVE this game!
If you like solitaire submarine game, this is for you. There are actually four of these games. The Hunters, which is OP is hard to find. This covers German submarine warfare during the 'Happy Time' 1939-1943, when escorts were few and defenses weak. The Hunters, above, is 1943-45, the twilight of German submarines. The solitaire system is outstanding. You can supplement this with fan files from Board Game Geeks. Beneath the Med cover Italian submarines, available through Amazon, and Silent Victory, OP and hard to find, covers US subs in the Pacific. They all use the same basic rules. Highly recommend.

Awesome once you dive in!
I’m hooked! Definitely watch a few YouTube videos and check for corrections in the makers website as there are several important misprints. A game can last minutes to several hours and can be as basic or advanced as you make it. I love the historical accuracy and with that just know the odds are against you!

Hunted Down and Out
I've been hearing for years that games like B-17 Queen of the Skies and The Hunters provide some of the best tension and emergent storytelling of any game out there. So how did my first foray into this genre of games go? Let's find out and get into five key elements of The Hunted:MIX, 2.5 out of 5: LIMITED CREW and SUB UPGRADING. On the positive side, I do like the variety of upgrades available here. You can upgrade all the different members of your crew, you can get different types of torpedoes, you can try out better and newer subs and new technologies . . . lots of cool stuff to play around with and to make your sub more survivable and powerful. But on the negative side, like most things in the game, whether or not you tend to get these upgrades tends to be very luck-based, and the game is pretty short, so you don't have that much of a chance to get as many of the cool tools as you might like. Now, you can fix that by combining The Hunted with previous games in this series like The Hunters and doing one really long campaign. But just within The Hunted itself, there's not as much upgrade potential as I would have liked to have seen.MIX, 2.5 out of 5: TENSION and STORY. Positively speaking, the threat of death is very real almost constantly in the game, which sometimes does ramp up the tension, although you can have very long periods of dullness as well. But on the negative side, the emergent story wasn't often there for me because you tend to see a lot of the same kind of stuff over and over again, like basic ship battles and plane attacks. Also, some of the more interesting events and unusual things didn't crop up enough for me to feel like I was having a unique experience each time.MAJOR CON, 1 out of 5: TABLES and MODIFIERS. Now it's usually not going to be exciting and fun to look at a bunch of tables and kind of flip all these cardboard sheets over, but I've gotten through this kind of thing with the COIN series by GMT. The thing that struck me with this game series, however, is that there are SO many tables and SO many die roll modifiers, really excessive to say the very least. I will say that a lot of them seem to be serving the purpose of simulation and realism. They want to account for all of these different factors, even if they only give a little modifier either way. But for me, someone who isn't as interested in simulation, I just found it sort of tedious to have to dig through these tables. Do I REALLY need 15 different modifiers to find out what actually affects my shot of this torpedo, for example? So I didn't find this part fun. Someone who loves the simulation aspect might adore it, but I don't.PRO, 5 out of 5: SHIP BATTLES. Ship battles are where you really make your most impactful choices and where you have the most controllable danger because you get to decide how close you want to get to the enemy ships, how many torpedoes you want to fire, how much you want to risk revealing yourself, etc. And if the escorts detect you, and they often will, you get into the most tense and exciting part of the game, which is where they keep on depth-charging you and cause more and more damage to your sub while you desperately try to escape their net. It's exciting, fun, and I love when you have a ton of damage where you just have to hope that you can limp back home all in one piece. Without a doubt, the ship attacks and their aftermath were the highest points of the game experience for me.BIG-TIME CON, 1 out of 5: LACK OF DECISIONS! Besides what I just said above about the ship combat where you make choices about torpedoes and how you can approach ships, you have practically ZERO control over anything that happens to you. Now don't get me wrong, it can sometimes be fun to roll on a chart and see what kind of fun things occur, but here I just found it kind of dull, frustrating, and boring to be dead honest because I didn't have enough impact on what happened to me in the game for it to feel important and feel like it mattered. Whether I almost made it all the way through the war or whether I died on my first die roll, it all just felt random and pretty much a gigantic let-down.FINAL SCORE, 2.5 out of 5 (rounded down to 2). Overall, as you can probably already tell, The Hunted was a pretty huge miss for me. I did enjoy the combat, however, and I think a lot of people are going to like that tension, but (for me) all the die roll modifiers, tables, randomness, dullness, and the feeling that I didn't control my fate really brought it down for me. But I do want to be clear that I talked to so many people on Facebook and Discover who love this type of game series and love these types of games overall, so I think my reaction here in this review is a somewhat personal one while you might totally adore the game.Happy gaming! This is Dr. D, and I'm out!

Amazing game, but buy elsewhere.
The game is five stars. Unfortunately I’ve tried buying this product twice on Amazon, one being FBA and one being 3rd seller, and was shipped the incorrect product twice. The game is amazing, but buy elsewhere otherwise you’ll probably end up with two copies of ‘The Hunters’ like me.
