This cutter is used in a correctional facility. It handles 3/8" steel with no problem, but you have to be patient. Don't expect to speed through like you're cutting paper. It isn't powerful enough to move like that. Take your time. It will get the job done. It's also compact, lightweight, and very portable. Have a good sized breaker on the outlet. The book says it needs 20 amps. I'd recommend 30 amps, and a clear circuit. I had it on 20 amps and if someone turned on a fan, the breaker blew. Once I plugged into a 60 amp circuit, it ran without a hitch.

Didn't work out of box. Terrible support for Hobart. Don't buy
Product didn't work out of the box. It would start to cut then the plasma tip would stop working. Called tech support and they were not much help. They just gave me a local Hobart dealer to take it to. Extremely disappointed in this product from what is supposed to be a reliable company.
