Don't know bout nova lox, but it can slice Jerry's finger paper thin.

What is the sheeth made of?

The sheath is durable enough plastic and secures the knife with a little friction bump that interacts with the handle. That's pretty handy. BUT... but the belt loop that attaches it to your belt is pretty flimsy. Mine broke last night while fishing which is a pain in the ... It's a different kind of plastic. I'm still trying to figure out how to fix it. It's the one weak point of the whole knife system.

Does the sheath have a way to attach to a belt?

No, the sheath has no openings for a belt attachment. We keep ours in an island drawer.
