Q: Is it required to push the button to receive someone's call? I'm looking for the function that will start playing without having the push the button.

Yes, you have to push the button to receive the call, but just the one time. Once you answer the call, it will stay on as if you're on a phone call on speaker mode. You won't have to press the button again until you hang up.

Q: My mother is in an assisted living home. No visitors allowed. We speak thru the window. Will this device allow for normal talk on both sides of window

Yes, they will work that way. You just need to get power to them wherever you use them. They operate either from a micro-USB plug power source, or with the optional 3.7 volt, 18650 lithium ion battery. If you go the battery route, be sure to buy a tabless battery (yes, tabless, i.e. with no protruding tab like most batteries have on the + side.) The normal 18650 batteries with tabs are just a tiny bit too long to fit into the battery housing.

You can use push to talk, that's the way we use them

These are great units. I have them hooked to electric and also purchased batteries separate. I can move them to other parts of the house and still stay in touch. She has MD and is unable to see the buttons to push. They will stay on as long as you like continuously. My wife fell and fractured her spinal disk. I had to have a way of staying in touch with her while in the kitchen. These work great. I even took one with me to the garden on the creek one day to see how far away they would communicate and although they did break up a little I could still talk with her.
