Gardena AquaZoom M rectangular sprinkler: Sprinkler for watering areas of 9–250 m², range 3–18 m, spread 3–14 m, built-in metal filter (18712-20)

We had new turf laid into our garden and were told we needed to stay off it for several weeks to let it settle, but it would require watering a couple of times a day through the summer. I wasn't really sure what the best sprinkler option was, having never had to tend to a lawn before. There seem to be various different types, but I felt a traditional oscillating sprinkler best suited the lawn area we have - it's essentially a 10x10m square of lawn. So ideally I needed a sprinkler I could throw in the middle to water. Gardena are a brand I've used many times lately, having centered most of my garden water needs around their products. They're pricier than some rivals, but I find that they're worth the extra money normally, especially if you wait for a sale price. I bought this item at around £30. The construction feels like heavy duty plastic. With the exception of the metal rods in the base, which I believe are for the axis/to rotate. There are a couple of dials to adjust the water streams and direction. The first one adjusts the "throw" which can increase the distance from 3-15m, and then there are dials to change the spread. You can do this on either end of the sprinkler so if you, for example, wanted to avoid the garden shed you could adjust the dial to stop short and open the other side up to go further. It's pretty effective. I tend to set mine up in the centre of the lawn and then adjust it to stop short of the patio on one end, and go full spread on the other. In terms of height I've set it to cover maximum distance without going over the neighbours fence! I think the quality is there for the money. I used it throughout the initial month of settling the lawn and it did a great job. I have since used it periodically during the hot spells in the summer. It's simple to hook up to the hose and place down where you need it. The controls are basic but effective. The water inlet has a built in rust resistant filter to prevent dirt or limescale getting into the sprinkler. This can be removed and washed out. It's worth noting that this is the smaller of three that Gardena sell. It'll cover up to 150m², the next one 250m² and the large does up to 350m² - so there are options available using the same tech - the throw and reach increases with the sizes. Overall good value, effective and feels like will last as long as I need it to. Easy recommendation from me.

Great garden sprinkler. Really stable base, and the widest area coverage that I've found. We tried other brands (the yellow one - better for small gardens) and this is the best!

This was my third Gardena Aquazoom L. The previous two used the old design but 2 or 3 years outside in British weather is all they get before they die. But the coverage was always great for our low North London water pressure. They did the whole garden (60m2). This new design of the same sprinkler is appallingly bad. Water at full pressure barely went above my waist and covered about 10m2. Far from the “350m2” stated on the box. And we checked our water pressure and it has not gone down and also I checked and double checked all the settings including the flow optimiser which actually just is a tap for less water flow. No way does this come close to the previous design and my wife and I just laughed it was so bad. Will have to look for different sprinklers or try and find the old design somewhere. Terrible sprinkler. Stay away.

Obviously coverage is dependent on water pressure so the advertised coverage needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. I generally get about 6m wide by 10m long but it does change day to day and hour by hour depending on the mains pressure. The great thing about this sprinkler is that you can change the length both forwards and backwards and side to side, so if your lawn is not rectangular you can vary the pattern as you move the sprinkler around the lawn and it still gives an even, smooth spray pattern without overshooting the lawn.

Works fine but far below the stated ranges. We have a half decent water pressure but this was getting nowhere near what it should be. Will be returning.

Nice but leaks a bit from the side so does waste water , probably too many adjustments so its over complicated should have bought a more basic one

Macht ein guten Eindruck aber leider habe ich ihn noch nicht genutzt, daher kann ich über die Funktion leider noch nicht viel sagen.

We have tried many sprinklers for lawns over 20 years and find the Gardena Adjustable oscillating the best. currently have three in use all summer every summer for the last 5 years. They are sturdy, reliable, easy to use and of the highest quality.
