In the vast world of vocal music available to us today, there is precious little out there to claim our ears. When a singer like Jaimee Paul comes along, we remember that musical artistry and good taste can produce wonderful music in any decade. Jaimee has listened to, and learned, from the singers of the past but she is aware that there is already an Ella, a Rosie, a Lena and a Billie. Her job now is to use all those wonderful influences in a new way. She has all the tools; the voice, the ear, the feel and the spirit, and though you can hear echoes of many people in her voice, she really sounds like nobody but herself. Attribution, without mimicry, is the greatest compliment any singer can pay to the people who have blazed the trail. It is a rare pleasure to play for a singer with the taste, musicality and plain old good sense that Jaimee Paul has. She does great tribute to the iconic girl singers on this project by taking on some of their signature songs. I'm very proud to be a part of this project.

Great singer. Fine album.
It's been suggested by another reviewer that while Miss Paul is a great singer, "At Last" is a mediocre album. I'd like to cordially disagree. As the other reviewer noted, her vocal interpretations are wonderful throughout. Also as noted by the mentioned review, the orchestrations are all interesting and full of subtlety. If this album has so much going for it, what's to complain about? The choice of material? But these are all first-rate interpretations of standards. The aforementioned reviewer seemed to be specifically looking for a certain up-tempo style. I'd like to offer the following observation: An album can be excellent without having up-tempo arrangements in a specific style. There's plenty of variety here, IMHO, and excellence throughout.Personally, I prefer "At Last" to "Melancholy Baby"; however, this is a matter of taste. Both records deserve five-star ratings.

fantastic voice, can't wait for more
This is a very special talent. She has a voice that comes along once in a while, and that you remember always in discussions of "Who did XYZ song best..." This immensely appealing CD is easy to listen to and even easier to marvel at. Its only flaw, a quibble perhaps, is that it is a bit derivative. The CD notes on Amazon go out of their way to say Paul is just herself, not Etta, not Ella, not Billie, not Dinah. But she does seem awfully like some of them at times. She needs to carve her own niche out and put a little stamp on the music to a somewhat greater extent. But as covers--these are pretty hard to beat.
