good for camping or traveling
PRO- This knife, with its plastic sheath, is very handy on camping trips and lightweight kitchen use.- I liked it well enough to buy this replacement when I lost my previous one.CON- The handle is thin and not suited for extended use but fine for cutting up a few veggies at a time.- Requires frequent sharpening- Seems lighter weight than my first one purchased many years ago

This is my second of these knives
I got one of these knives to go in my red kitchen and as an alternative to my 8 1/2 chef's blade for everything else. It is nice to have a smaller knife for some jobs, but this knife does not give the rocking action the chef's blade excels at. However, that was expected. This knife comes sharp and holds its edge well. It also took an edge well the one time I sharpened it since buying the first one months ago. I use it for all kinds of cutting in the kitchen and its small size can be quite useful. It is comfortable to hold as well. I don't use the sheath much. It bothers me that it doesn't have a drainage hole, but I might drill a small one in it. I got a second one to take to the office since the first one in my kitchen has been so useful. I particularly like the sheath for the office since I keep the knife in an above the head cabinet, in case it were to fall out it wouldn't cut me or anything else.

I LOVE THESE KNIVES
I have bought a BUNCH of these over the years. They are slim and light and great for the camper, BBQ tool set, picnic basket, camp utensils kit, work desk, lunch box, and oh yeah - kitchen. They hold and edge well and sharpen easily. Even with my big hands they are comfortable to use; my wife likes them too.

Sheaths do not fit the knife blades
I have had many of these over the years and my wife just tried to buy me 2 more. Not only do the blades not fit into the sheaths, but the JC logo is no longer on the blade. The knife and red handle/sheath feel very inferior to vintage knives just like this of the "vintage" era. Unfortunately like so many things....not made like the "vintage" versions.

Great Little Utility Knife - With a Sheath!
After owning the Joyce Chen kitchen shears and using them for years in my jewelry work to cut sheet metal (and not chicken bones as they were designed to do) with great success, I decided to check out this utility knife. The knife seems to match the quality of the shears and does it's job well. i love the little plastic sheath that comes with the blade. I took this on a three-week car camping trip to replace the knife I usually take. That knife does not have a sheath and it was always a problem to have a very sharp knife in the box of traveling kitchen utensils that would end up cutting things it was not supposed to (including fingers when it was hidden at the bottom of the box). The Chen knife, with its sheath, solved that problem. It's a good size and can act as both a paring knife and a general cutting knife. I'm very happy with it.

Cheap knock off
Joyce Chen, fail on this knife. Your original Joyce Chen was everything this knife is not. Poor sheath fit, different edge and steel, does not stay sharp like original. For $8.00 each I expected the quality of the original knife. Would not purchase again as I can purchase this quality in a dollar store.

The cover is great to keep from getting cut/clean when I travel with ...
My wife had this knife confiscated during checkin on a flight. She put it in her carryon by mistake and the TSA agents grabbed it. I had used it for over 15 years for tent camping, car trips, motel camping and general all around knife. I looked everywhere on the web and finally found the exact same knife by Joyce Chen. I don't remember ever sharpening it (probably would have helped) since it always cut when I needed it. The cover is great to keep from getting cut/clean when I travel with it. I bought an extra one for backup incase there're not available some day. A really great Handy Little Knife (appropriately named). Also cleans easily and doesn't rust.

Satisfied
Nice little knife, came out of the package quite sharp. Handle is a bit thin, but the texturing is a good extra touch and provides enough grip. The sheath is actually why this isn't a 5 star review as I think it's borderline dangerous. It's literally such a tight fit that it seems to be a real risk of injury trying to wedge the knife into an inadequate opening. So that hit the trash immediately and I'm enjoying the knife. So, if covers for your knife blades are important to you, I'd advise not purchasing this one - but if you want a versatile little knife this is a good value.
