Flying Tigers (1942)

Replaced an old VHS tape of The Flying Tigers with this purchase. Good blue ray quality.A great addition/replacement to our John Wayne movie collection!

This story is an important example of American heroes through their sacrifice, making a victory in WWII. The Chinese called them "Flying Tigers" the Japanese called them "dragons" in their p-42's. The Chinese are erecting a memorial 08/2015 to remember their saviors and friends in war against tyranny. The Chinese are to be credited too doing their part saving downed pilots and spotting for the flying tigers to fend off the Japanese. If the flying Tigers had not got going in 1939 working for Chang ki chec (last non communist leader of China) shot down the 300 Japanese planes and losing only 13 of there own, Japanese would have taken over China and we would have had that much more time and trouble winning the war. It is so sad that all positive history of americans are being removed from history by ignorant liberal political hacks falsely referring to themselves as scholars. Communists have done this in all countries they have tyrannized.

As a pilot, I love movies about flying, and I read that this one has some really good flying scenes. I know the history of the real Flying Tigers and I wanted to see how closely this matched reality. Well, in many respects, it was pretty accurate to more objective history. Of course, this was made during World War II, so, like most Hollywood productions of the time, it glorified our help our of friends (the Chinese in this case) and vilified our enemies (the Japanese in this case). I don't hold that against the film. John Wayne gave a good performance of a commander of an all volunteer group who was trying to keep the group together and alive in the middle of a war. Some of the other actors' acting wasn't quite up to that standard. The flying scenes left me a bit disappointed. I know there was a war on and I know budgets were tight, but the aircraft were so obviously models that it was hard to suspend disbelief. About the only thing you didn't see was the strings on the models. Still, it was a good movie with a rousing patriotic message - even the "bad" guy in the group finally gets the message in the end. This won't be one of my favorite movies, but it is one I'll watch more than once.

Here we find John Wayne in one of His best in my opinion, based on the true story of the brave American Mercenary Pilots of the Legendary Flying Tigers who did their best to defend China from the marauding Japanese Air Forces in their P-40 Fighters, it's classic John Wayne and its excellent from an age where there was no such thing as 'C.G.I.' and they simply did their best so it should'nt be picked apart, if You like this then You would love 'The Flying Leather-Necks', the DVD arrived bang on time and at unbeatable value- VERY HAPPY- THANK YOU!
