Let's face it: life gives you plenty of reasons to get angry, sad, scared, and frustrated-and those feelings are okay. But sometimes it can feel like your emotions are taking over, spinning out of control with a mind of their own. To make matters worse, these overwhelming emotions might be interfering with school, causing trouble in your relationships, and preventing you from living a happier life. Don't Let Your Emotions Run Your Life for Teens is a workbook that can help. In this book, you'll find new ways of managing your feelings so that you'll be ready to handle anything life sends your way. Based in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a type of therapy designed to help people who have a hard time handling their intense emotions, this workbook helps you learn the skills you need to ride the ups and downs of life with grace and confidence. This book offers easy techniques to help you: โขStay calm and mindful in difficult situations โขEffectively manage out-of-control emotions โขReduce the pain of intense emotions โขGet along with family and friends Review: Wonderful DBT Workboo - I am a School Social Worker at a public high school and have been using Sheri's first edition and now her second edition of this book with my coping skills groups for the past several years. I have seen tremendous growth from the participants and this is largely do to the way DBT is broken down to a very practical and personal way. I highly recommend this book to all clinicians working with students/ clients who struggle with anger, aggressive behavior, self-injury, suicidal ideations and attempts, hospitalizations, and eating disorders. The participants leave the group with a much deeper understanding of themselves and how to make their thoughts, feelings, and behavior work for them. Review: What a great workbook, I use it with my client's all the time! - I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Certified addiction Professional who works for a center in private practice with many ages. I'm always in search for new, fun, interesting, and learning activities that are rewarding for my teens. I have post it notes on so many pages in this workbook and can reference a section at a moments notice. What an inspiring workbook. Good job to the author!!

A well written treasure for anyone working with young people
I don't usually use self-help books, but I'm so glad I bought a copy for both me and my 15 year old daughter to use in between her counseling sessions. The research is well done and the information is realistic and modern for today's youth. Exercises and worksheets It encourages self-control by focusing on realities, not possibilities. I love that!!! We both mark our answers. Although we're close, I learned so much about both of us by discussing our answers to the worksheets. The information is realistic and modern and fits today's youth. It's a good investment that encourages conversation. When using it listen, listen, listen. I think will work best if both parent(s) and child have their own copies. Some info is redundant, but sometimes that's necessary. I didn't mind it. Overall a very well written book. Buy one and see for yourself.

I've been working with my children to incorporate these skills into their lives and thought this book might be a good addition f
I purchased this book after personally going through a DBT program and understanding the value of using the skills as a lifestyle. I've been working with my children to incorporate these skills into their lives and thought this book might be a good addition for my teenaged daughter. I've read through this book now and have just given it to her. The skills are well outlined. The exercises are presented in a very approachable format. Overall, I think the presentation of emotion regulation in this book is very good. I stopped with 4 stars, instead of 5, because of the book's introduction. It suggests that the reader bought the book or is reading the book because s/he has emotional 'problems.' When I gave this to my daughter, I was very clear to say that I did not think she was in any sort of 'trouble.' Rather, I felt the book had great tips on learning how to negotiate emotions, teaching healthy ways to go through life. I sincerely wish someone had taught me these skills 20 years ago and am grateful my daughter has this resource.

Miracle workbook
I purchased both this workbook and the anger workbook and started on this one first. So far it has already helped immensely. I'm having an easier time learning to control my emotions and take a different approach than i was before. I'm someone who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, severe depression, anxiety, adhd, and rage. I take medication and have for years but nothing seemed to help, so you can imagine the ups and downs i go through every single day of my life. I didn't know if this book would help but i was desperate. My problems affected my relationships, ability to work, ability to communicate without either crying, outbursts, screaming, or sarcasm. Since going through just the "mindfulness" chapter alone, my boyfriend and I haven't fought in a week, I don't get mad or irritated so easily, I don't really swear now. At first it was a little difficult because controlling my emotions, I didn't have an outlet for my rage and that was a problem, but I didn't let it affect how I treated people and that was huge for me. I'm very pleased with my progress and others have noticed as well. It's an excellent workbook. I highly recommend it.

Easy to understand and very useful
This workbook has been a great adjunct to my work with teens struggling with emotional dysregulation and/or suicidal or non-suicidal self-injury impulses. I have found it very useful for introducing concepts and teaching DBT skills to those teens who are not eligible or otherwise have missed out on the opportunity for the full DBT program. Instead, I have them work through the exercises and chapters at home, then review and expand on their learning in clinic sessions. A great alternative for some young people.

Seems specific and useful, so far
I have only read the first chapter so far, but it seems to be the right book and is easy enough to read and seems to be pitched right. Time will tell, I suppose, but so far, so good
