Superior to old school trays
I wasn't sure about spending $13 on an ice cube tray, but it's been so well worth it. Enjoying an ice cube tray this much is full on adulting. I've been using a set of basic 12-cube trays that are mostly plastic with just the bottoms of the cube portion made of silicone. They were annoying though because the plastic had cracked, I was always spilling the water the in freezer or didn't have enough room in the freezer. The size of the cubes are perfect for me, not too large, not tiny. I love that this cube tray is so much more compact, so you only need a little space in the freezer and can even set other items above or below it. I was skeptical about the cover really preventing spillage, but I haven't had any issues and already made about 8 batches of ice. I love how sturdy it is and that it comes with 2 trays (and unlike my old ones, I don't have to precariously balance these to avoid the top tray falling into the bottom one). While all the ice doesn't fall right out, I don't find it that difficult to get the cubes out. Even with my old basic ice trays, I had to bang, dig and fight to get half the cubes to come out. With this one, it's usually just a few around the edges that take a few extra seconds to push out. This is truly a great design for a cube maker and should become the standard for all ice trays.

Easily pops out of tray
Our ice maker broke, so we bought this to replace it. It has been very helpful. The ice is a good size and pops out very easily, I remember the plastic ice cube trays were always hard to pop out but this is no issues. And this makes a lot more ice than the plastic ones. We have probably made 40 trays of ice and it is holding up great. I love that the top tray is bigger than the bottom one to help it easily sit on the bottom tray. The lid is so helpful!

Tricks of the Ice Cube Tray That Don't Require Rocket Science
I was looking for silicone ice trays after reading about microplastics and how I'm probably eating the equivalent of a credit card a day. Because OXO rarely disappoints, I opted for these. Before I did, I read the reviews - caveat emptor and all - so I was prepared for the ice cube challenge. Here's what I've got: 1. These are little. I read the size. I read the reviews. I was prepared for small. But I was not prepared for *this* small. We are talking petite little squares. Elf-sized. The upside is they're cute and work well in smaller glasses. The downside? Well, either plan to spend a whole lot of time monitoring your ice inventory and making more ice or buy a couple of these. 2. Water expands when it freezes, so *of course* if you put the wrong ice tray in the bottom of the stand and fill it up to the top, it's going to expand and freeze onto the other one. This is not rocket science. It's chemistry. As the water freezes and hydrogen bonds form between water molecules, the bonds form a pattern called a lattice. The lattice prevents water molecules from packing together, so water expands upon freezing. So... 3. There is a top silicone tray and a bottom silicone tray. The bottom silicone tray has a fill line. Do not fill the water higher than the fill line, and make sure to put the bottom tray on the bottom. This will solve your "sticking together" problem. 4. When you fill the trays with water, make sure you use the bottom support tray. Don't fill the silicone tray and then place it in the bottom plastic tray - that results in a wobbly, watery mess. Instead, keep the bottom silicone tray in the hard plastic tray, then once filled, stack the top tray and again, do not overfill. Put the lid on and then walk to the freezer with your elf-sized ice cube tray. No spilling, no wobbling. I use a measuring cup with a pour spout to make it nice and neat and avoid overfilling it. 5. Removing the cubes is also not rocket science. But it can be easily done by creating a physical phase change from frozen water to liquid water. Just put some hot water into the top plastic tray - not boiling, just hot - and set the silicone tray into it. A small amount of melting occurs very quickly, and you can easily pop your cubes out. You'll be doing this a lot if you use even a moderate amount of ice, so good to have a plan. The top tray is the one to use because it's a little deeper. Overall, I would recommend these with the caveat re the size. OXO really, really, really needs to make a larger version of this - and I don't just mean larger cubes (though something closer to normal would be nice), but at least a larger tray. For those of us who are neither elves nor willing to devote our waking hours to making ice, these are a little too small. Otherwise, thumbs up, but petite thumbs.

Almost ready to... LET IT GO (Frozen)
This wasn't quite what I was hoping for - getting water into the trays are a little difficult especially when walking back to the freezer without spilling water on the floor. The idea of it is great, allowing to keep the odors from your freezer from getting into the cubes and keeping everything nice and tidy in the freezer. I don't find myself going through the trouble of filling it and freezing it and just end up using my ice maker. Pros: * Compact - it keeps the ice cubes nice and neatly! * Durable - the material feels as though it is a higher quality * The perfect fit - The smaller and slightly larger ice cubes give a little variety. Cons: * Dripping - I wish there were a way to get to the freezer without spilling most of the water. * Sticking - The silicone tray holds tightly onto the ice cubes. It can be tricky to get them out! In closing, if you do not have an ice maker, this would be a good addition to the kitchen. The ice cubes taste fine once frozen, but it does seem to take a while to get them that way.

Great For Cocktails
Great ice cube tray for making cocktails. If you're hosting, you will need to prep a few batches in advance, however. Make sure to use boiling water to improve the clearness of the cubes. Love the design of this ice cube tray, and my only wish is that it were a little bigger. One batch is definitely enough to ice a few drinks, though. The cubes come out looking beautifully, and aren't too hard to remove from the silicone, especially if you leave them on the counter for a couple of minutes first, or briefly run some hot water on the backside. The lid is a great feature to avoid spillage in the freezer/during transportation, and allow you to stack other things on top of it. Depending on the temperature of your freezer, it can take a while for the cubes in the middle of the bottom tray to freeze, however, due to the stacked design, so make the cubes in advance. I typically transfer my cubes after freezing in the tray for 24 hours into a Ziplock bag, so haven't left them in the tray for a long period of time, but so far have noticed no off flavors or absorption of freezer smells.

Good Small Cubes for Cocktails
Score is 4.5, definitely not 5 stars. Pros: trays fit together nicely, and the cover and frame is very sturdy. The cubes are the size I was looking for. Size of cubes is listed as 7/8 in and it's quite close, dependent on how filled each cavity is. I wanted small cubes for shaking and stirring cocktails, and these will suit nicely. And for each freezing the trays will produce quite a few cubes. But... It takes about 10-12 cubes to half fill a rocks glass. That will be half of one of the trays (1/4 of all cubes) in one use. That is the first (minor for me) downside: one production of cubes will only accommodate making or serving 2-4 drinks. While serving may only use half a tray, shaking or stirring generally uses about a full tray of cubes. A lot of other trays offer similar cubes-per-drink kind of ratios for their size, but they might give you multiple trays, and this tray isn't cheap. You're paying for the frame, cover, and name brand, along with the number of cubes. Again for me this is a minor downside, but does mean I have to keep a extra plastic bag in the freezer that I continually top up as the cubes freeze. The more annoying downside is filling the trays. It's messy and difficult. Because the cavities are so small, they fill up quickly and don't evenly spill into the surrounding cells. I fill them from a filter pitcher with the trays inside the frame. It's hard to fill the outside cells evenly without spilling over the side. I've resorted to just filling them on my bar mat and not worrying about the water overfilling, but it's inefficient and takes time to clean up afterwards. Even with the overflow while pouring, I keep them around the stated fill line and haven't had a problem separating the trays after freezing. The silicone is forgiving and twists easily to loosen the cubes to push out. I wanted small cubes, and I got small cubes. The filling process is annoying, but I don't know what a better solution for cubes this small might be. Also looking around, no reviews on these trays ever say anything about the actual measurement of the cubes or cubes-per-glass, so I included that here, with pictures.

I hate this ice cube tray!
They are next to impossible to remove from the tray, and they take forever to get out. You can't just get all of the cubes out, you have to do them one by one. So, holding onto a cold silicon tray and popping out ice cubes one by one as they stick to my fingers and hurt when pry them off, is not my idea of a nice ice tray. Not only that, but they don't come out easily, so I have to fight with each individual one to get it out. It is a cute idea, having them stack up in a nice little container, but did anyone at OXO actually test this before they put it on the market? I don't understand the positive reviews on this. Have these people even used this? They must know a trick that I don't, because this is the absolute worst ice tray I have ever used. OXO is one of my favorite brands, so I was sad to see what an awful gadget this was. Pass it on by folks, you will be happy you did.

The best tray for cookie dough!
I have an autistic son who will only eat homemade chocolate chip cookies of the exact same size. Due to the enormous amount of cookies I make at once, a cookie dough baller took much too long. I switched to ice cube trays to try to save time. After many different trays, this one was the winner. I can make mass batches of cookies and then freeze them in these ice cube trays. It takes some thumb strength to remove them, but it is worth it. This method shaved several hours off of my cookie prep time. Plus, the cookies they make come out evenly sized, fresh and delicious! I highly recommend!

Good but didnt last long
The product seems good at first. Flexible silicone. It is neat and comes with a lid. The cube is on the small size though. After less than a month, the silicone is already torn off. Not sure if it’s still safe to use…

so amazing
the container is small and fits well in my freezer. I like that there is a lid for easy ice storage and so i can freeze the ice while it is covered. the only downside is that it is a bit difficult to remove the ice from the tray. since water expands when solidified, although i underfill the tray, it still expands and creates quite the function within each cube making it difficult to remove. but other than that, the product is so cute and works great!
