Ultima Collection - PC

A collection Ultima fans will enjoy
I got hooked on the Ultima games since I was 12, starting with Ultima III and Ultima IV. Although I hadn't played the previous ones, I must say that the remake of Ultima I is definitely worth a look. Ultima II however, leaves much to be desired on graphics and sound (why not a remake?). Ultima III is an OK version, and Ultima IV is when the games began to get better. If you don't get too picky on the graphics and sounds, you'll enjoy both. As for Akalabeth (the precursor of the games), I think it was included more because of its historic value than for its game play.Ultima V goes through major graphic and sound improvements, well worth the time to play and enjoy, as well as Ultima VI, which perhaps has the best storyline. But the real juice on this collection is with Ultima VII part I and II (Serpent Isle). These two games make this collection worth to buy; the storyline for both is amazing, plus you get the bonus add-ons for both (Forge of Virtue and Silver seed). Guaranteed to provide hours of game play, loss of sleep and numb fingers...Unfortunately, Ultima VIII: Pagan was the big deception. Poor controls, an amateur-type 3D graphics engine and an archaic spell-casting system (will keep you mixing reagents for hours), left the fans disappointed. Too bad Richard Garriot (aka Lord British, the Ultima games producer) wasn't called for this one; the result may have been another. As a bottom line, I'll recommend this collection to true Ultima fans and to game players that want to get a good idea of how role-playing games evolved and have some fun in the process!

I don't know what else to say, except this is the best game series ever.
I admit, I have so much nostalgia when it comes to the Ultima series. I remember back to playing Ultima 6 and 7 as a kid. To this day, I am not sure that I have had that much fun with a video game, ever. The best in the Ultima series, is Ultima 7. They made a huge leap in graphics from 6 to 7, and the plot of 7 makes it incredibly fun to play, even in 2022. My almost teen son is a gamer and has started playing Ultima 7. It has been fun to watch him play it, especially because he is not used to games with such an intricate plot. I think he's hooked too. I wish we could get a quality reboot of this series!

From the paper to the plastic - the packaging is poor, the paper that contains it is poor
For some reason all of the material in these collections is very cheap. From the paper to the plastic - the packaging is poor, the paper that contains it is poor. The games themselves are absolutely awesome. Buying these games individually is the way to go, the collections are complete garbage, but I think that has to do with eeeee aye.

Brought back memories from my youth
I saw this collection of games and remembered I used to play this on my old Commodore 64. Many nights I stayed up fighting the forces of evil in Britannia. Great set of games, I still have not finished them all. This will last a life time.

Great RPGs, but how do you run the programs?
The Ultima Collection include what could possibly be the best RPG games of all time. UC includes all of the Ultima titles from Akalabeth (the game the Ultima series was based on) to Ultima VIII.In order to run these games, you literally have to be a computer expert. You have to run these games from the DOS prompt. Before you get to play any of these games, you have to fix a lot of settings which an average computer user would have no idea how to set them up, or even what they mean (I'm still trying to find out what an "IRQ" is.) Also, many of the new computers do not have a PC Speaker, which all of the games require to play any sound effects and music.By the way, do not expect Ultima I: Exodus to look anything like its NES counterpart. In Ultima I through IV, graphics are very poorly defined; everything consists of plain colored squares. If you can actually manage to setup and execute the programs smoothly, then have at this game. Otherwise, I would recommend playing the NES and SNES Ultima titles.

Best games ever made!
Ultima 6 and 7 have to be the best games I have ever played. I remember nights where I would stay up all night crawling thru a dungeon in 7 with the hairs on the back of my neck standing up because the game was so thrilling to play. Sure the graphics of 6 are outdated, but anyone who has played thru it entirely knows the gameplay more than makes up for it. These games had a very strange atmosphere which made you wonder what would happen next. Another great thing about them is you can move/steal any object and kill ANYONE at any time which adds up to months more entertainment besides just the great story. Ultima 8 however was a horrible action type game made by EA and not the original director. But 6 and 7 are a fantastic deal at this price, especially for collector like myself. The only gripe I have is that Ultima7 was not redesigned for windows and you may have some problems getting the mouse/sound to work. It would have been easy for them to redesign it for Win98 and would have saved alot of people headaches. Still this is a fantastic piece of gaming history. BUY IT NOW!

Don't buy this
It's pretty simple, here. Ultima games only became worth purchasing beginning with Ultima 7. So you want three games if want old-school Ultima: Ultima 7, Ultima 7 Serpents Isle, and Ultima 8. The rest of the titles are just garbage, and that they want to charge a fortune for them now is just laughable. Is anybody really buying this? And will your PC even play the older titles? And would you even want it to? They're bad. I mean, really, really, bad. This is a nostalgia purchase, nothing more. It is to witness the evolution of RPG gaming, but definitely not to empty your bank account doing it.Ultima 7 and Ultima 7 Serpents Isle are still great fun to play; Ultima 8? A little less so, mostly because it is smaller in scope. This is where the Baldur's Gate Series began, which eventually spawned the Elder Scroll Games, so there is an historical component. Still, it's just not worth this price. I might pay ten bucks or so to play these titles again (maybe). Yeah, maybe.
