When you grind them up they generate a fart-like odor. ### ⭐ Terrible smell *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2020* Today I learned that during the fermentation of white peppercorns a number of aromatic compounds are released, including 3-methylindole and 4-methylphenol, which are both largely responsible for how poop smells. If the water isn't changed frequently enough during fermentation, these compounds remain on the peppercorn.
