saved me a lot of time!
I purchased this cable so that I could clone a failing hard drive to a new hard drive. The cables arrived attractively packaged and seem of good quality. The SATA adapters required some maneuvering to plug onto and remove from the HD; this called for more roughness than I'd like to apply on a sensitive hard drive. However, my HD escaped damage and works fine. The power cable had a red indicator light when plugged into the HD and the USB cable displayed a green light when plugged into my laptop - useful indicators that the products are functioning. After I snapped the USB into my laptop, Windows 7 detected the new HD without any issues.I then used the free trial edition of Terabyte Image for Windows to begin cloning my old drive to the new drive.During data transfer, the USB cable light blinked red, a helpful visual signal that data was being transferred to the attached HD.After about 1.5 hours, all 500GB of my old HD had been copied to my new HD. I plopped the new HD into my laptop and voila - it worked perfectly. Windows 7 booted right up just the way I'd left it, as if I hadn't even changed hard drives. This cable saved me a lot of hassle in re-installing the OS, specialized drivers, and additional programs.

Great product and reasonably priced
The SATA hard drive in my HP desktop stopped booting up...I didn't think it was a hard drive "crash," because I know what hard drives sound like when it is a hardware failure. I'm not sure why Windows Vista stopped booting up, but when it did I could not access that hard drive. So I needed a way to retrieve the data. I could have taken the hard drive to the Geek Squad and paid over $150 for them to do it, but instead I ordered this device. Very straightforward. Within ten minutes after opening the package from Amazon, I had it connected to my old hard drive, plugged the other end (USB) into my wife's HP desktop, and was transferring files. Nothing to complain about with this product.

Probably works for what you need...
When I originally ordered this product, I was looking for a way to try and salvage one of my computer harddrives...The harddrive used SATA and I really wanted to convert it to USB to be able to back up the files on the only working computer I had at the time. I think mine was defective, because I could not get it to work enough to back up my files...YMMV, but I ended up buying a much more expensive product, and it seemed to work better...

Great while it worked
I needed to pull files off of a fried computer onto my new Windows 7 box. This adapter powered up the HD and was recognized right away as a new USB device. I was able to copy over about 100Gb of data with no problem. However, about a half hour later I went to copy more and it no longer worked. I thought maybe it was a Windows 7 issue, but it no longer is seen as a USB device on an XP machine I also connected it to, and didn't work any better on either machine with another drive attached. Maybe it overheated, but at least I got the critical files over.

Not the one
Item was not the item that i was expecting but i guess that's my fault i haven't take a look at it more rigid, I was expecting the one with IDE reader, regarding with the item i haven't really use it yet because i bought another one that has an IDE reader with it which is more functional for me rather than having just a SATA anyway over all the item was not that bad packaging, deliver and others stuffs are good.

Great Product!
I am an average home pc user who had a motherboard and power supply failure. The HD was working fine so I needed a quick fix to pull my data off the old disc and onto another machine. This product did exactly what it was supposed to do, was easy to connect/setup etc. and (in my mind) is great value. It has LEDs that give an indication of activity level and an external power supply. If I were to make one very minor negative observation, it would be that the cables are all a little bit too short, another 6 inches would be ideal but as they were it was not a big issue at all.

Another very good product !
Does for SATA disks what the PCMS USB 2.0 To IDE Cable with 2.5"/3.5"/5.25"Adapter does for IDE disks, and it performs exactly as advertised. And I found that it works as well under Linux as under MS Windows (various flavours of both)No gentleman's computer workshop should be without one.A word of warning (added after months of use) the SATA plugs on this are too wide to use on a 2.5" HDD, and will require careful work with file/sand-paper before you can access one of those disks, as used on most laptops nowadays.

works. Lots of cables.
Works as advertised. I just needed to connect to a drive temporarily(hour or so), and disconnect. I wouldn't want to use it long term. 4 different cables to connect together. Obviously no case for the drive, could see a drive being knocked off the desk or something.
