Q: Does this contain Diatomaceous Earth?

Hi Catherine, Mile Four Starter Feed does contain a trace amount of Diatomaceous Earth. This is because of the main component in Diatomaceous Earth, silica. Silica has been found to give a lot of benefits to chickens, including bone health. It is also known to improve egg production and size, and, maybe most importantly, is a natural dewormer. Many people have issues with DE in the coop, bedding or elsewhere, but the DE in Mile Four Starter Feed is a very small, trace amount that should not have an effect on the health of you or your flock.

Q: Is any oil added to this product? Many scratch formulas add oil that can become rancid, I need to avoid this.

No. Fresh oats, wheat, corn and barley only.

Q: I have bought pellets for 14 months. Looks like the pellet size increased 25% that past few months. Is this true? Rooster not happy.

Good question - we bought a new pelletizer a few months ago to keep up with demand as we grow and the pellets are slightly (10-15%) larger. We tried our best to have the same size but our old machine was old and we could not find a machine that made the exact same size pellet. Sorry to hear your rooster doesn't like the new pellet size - chickens, especially adults, can be quite picky. Maybe your rooster would like to try the whole grain?
