I don't ever get enthused over a pair of shorts - but I'll make an exception in this case.I ordered a size up after reading the reviews, Im a 36 waist and the XL are a perfect fit but advertised as 37-39. The shorts, in short, are awesome. They arrived surprisingly well packaged and felt quite weighty to hold despite feeling light weight when worn....go figure that one.They are comfortable and as tough as old boots. There are 6 front pockets and 4 rear and they are well positioned, deep and discreet. I got a black pair and the pockets have a low profile which is a bonus because I don't really like that cargo-pants-dad look. I have to say, I love them and I'm getting another pair when the grey is back in stock. They feel like a much more expensive pair of shorts and perfect for hiking/festivals/vigilantism etc any activity that justifies having 10 pockets.Downsides - The velcro fastener is a bit odd rather than a button, but it does allow for some adjustment. One of my kids thinks they are 'lame' because they don't have 'North Face' printed on them. He wont be thinking that when i SWAT him in his room later.

Im a size 34-36 and after reading the reviews opted for the XL, the fit is perfect. (The label inside reads XL 36). The quality of these shorts is excellent, nice ripstop material and good stitching all round. Zips are all YKK and are nice and chunky. Yes, the velcro fastener does take a bit of getting used to but it's not a major problem. I bought these simply for the pockets as I usually carry around a lot of stuff.. again, top marks,loads of room. 2 points of note... I would have liked a velcro fastener on the back pockets as they are just open and the 2 "phone" pockets on the sides may not accommodate some of the larger devices. I have a Samsung Galaxy A5 and it just fits in there, which isn't a problem as there's still the 2 large zipped pockets which would probably hold just about anything. All in all though great pair of shorts already debating whether to get another pair in a different colour.

I was surprised that the only fastening on them is velcro, no button or even stud but they are very good shorts despite this.Bought really for overseas travel in tropical countries, all these pockets for stuff appealed to me but to be honest I wouldn't recommend them for that purpose.That's not the shorts fault as they are neither advertised or really designed for that, by which I mean especially the large open rear pockets.I don't regret buying them though as they really are of very good material and stitching, also the 2 leg zipped pockets I will find very useful and the front hand pockets, each of which have small coin types pockets also.The fit, as others have said is perhaps slightly on the small size around the waist but I took that into account having read other reviews, I would suggest that if your not in the mid to lower end of the sizing range you chose the next size up.The legs, zoom in on the shorts photo, have a V section that, on the large size measure, 11 inches from the crutch, they taper down front and back to the full length which is 12 inches at the front and 11 inches at the back.The leg length depends upon the body shape of the wearer of course but I did read that one reviewer had them shortened slightly.On me they come just to the upper edge of my knees, so fine.All in all I think anyone who buys these shorts will be delighted by their quality and the price is really quite cheap considering thatFor me and my purpose, if they had flap closed or zipped rear pockets and slightly wider front velco closing pockets, they are too small for most phones being only 3 inches wide they would really be ideal.

Ideal for walking and trekking. Plenty of pockets for all your bits and pieces . I’ve got two pair of these and I think there the best shorts I’ve ever purchased

Love these shorts. I suspect they are deeply unfashionable - though to be fair my wife has not said so and she usually would. They have loads and loads of pockets in brilliant places and are just very comfortable and seem to be made of indestructible material. Great for summer holidays when you know you are going to be carrying passports and wallets and extra stuff around with you in hot climates. I even like the Velcro waist fastening - really simple and allows you to dispense with a belt and adjust them if you’ve had a bit of a blowout and need extra room! I can see me rarely buying other shorts from now on. You can pay ridiculous prices for so called more stylish pairs which then wear out very quickly. And have very few pockets.

These are a great pair of shorts - I went for the Large size with a 36" waist but the label does say XL - 36". Don't worry - order as recommended by other reviewers. I wear these in a tropical environment during the day - they are a little heavy but they are hard wearing and durable.The pockets are generous, though the mag pockets will not take an iPhone Plus with an Otter Box covering - I guess a regular smartphone will fit.The zipped pockets are of a decent size and take a lot of my sundry items without seeming to be stressed in the corners. A zipped back pocket would have been a nice additional feature but they are good enough for me.I got the 12" inseam - the 8" inseam would have been a bit too short for me with my 36" legs!Highly recommended!

Overall as far as fit goes, it's great and lightweight, especially in hot environments. My major dislikes and where most cargo style shorts fail, are the pockets. Which pockets? The front waist pockets, they're an inch too short in both height and width. The other set of pockets that fail are the cargo zippered and slash pockets. Again, these are slightly too small.

I love these shorts. The velcro buckle and elastic back strap make for a perfect fit. Waist size is 35 so I ordered 36 and they fit comfortably. Lots of different useful sized pockets that close with velcro or zipper. Look good and are durable. Legs stop at mid or just below the knee. Second order of these shorts and won't be the last.

I've had a whole lot of shorts in my years and none of them have even come close to these. Everything about them is awesome! I was pretty upset last week when I accidentally got some oil on them, however a little stain removal scrub and a couple washes it was gone and I'm back wearing them.I've purchased these and the lighter version, which are equally as epic, and now the only shorts I'll probably ever wear to the gym ever again (which I do on the daily). I believe I will need three more pair now.One note, I sized UP and went with the longer length on both, but thats just my style. Also, shipping was relatively fast from overseas. A+Don't hesitate, buy these!

These shorts are great, and I have several in different colors, plenty of pockets and they fits perfect.I actually like them better than 511.Only problem is finding seller in US.
