Glad I Bought It
I made some Damson jam with this machine and was very pleased with the outcome. You have to follow the recipe correctly to get the right results. If you like large bits of fruit in your jam this might not work, it produces a smooth jam as the fruit is chop up, I used my food processor for this, quite finely. I made 2 lots of jam and both batches were good. It was hassle free and the best bit no burnt pan at the end! Very easy to clean.

Leaves toxic flavouring in food
The concept of this product is brilliant, however the product has a flaw. The product has a plastic part inside to stir the jam. This product is heated to 100 degrees and when this happens it causes the jam to be flavoured like plastic. I believe any plastic product heated in such a way would do the same thing. You can't eat the jam unless you want to taste plastic. I think the plastic must be heated and released into the jam. The smell as someone else has mentioned in a review will never go because the plastic stirring utensil should be made of the same product that the pot itself is made of. Very poor, that who ever thought that plastic being heated to such a temperature would not cause a problem such as this, it's leaving toxic flavouring in your jams and jellies. Be mindful of this when buying this product.

Categorically cannot be used to make jam
This item is basically a pan that simmers fruit and sugar for about half an hour while stirring it. Making proper jam requires that the excess water be boiled off to thicken the jam to the desired consistency- something that this device isn't capable of doing. It can make stewed fruit, but that's it. If you want to make jam you need to use a saucepan on the hob for about an hour. These things are just ineffective gimmicks.

Does not do what it is supposed to do
Useless and had to send it back. The pot does not get hot enough to thicken the jam.

Sweet Cherry Jam - AWESOME!!!
With all of the EXCELLENT reviews posted here, I really don't know where to begin.....except to say that this appliance WILL be used - LOTS!!!!! I made my first batch of jam yesterday (Sweet Cherry) from Montana Flathead cherries. These are "eating" cherries; however, I purchased too many and didn't to throw any out. So, into the "FreshTECH" they went -with GREAT results. The fruit preparation took some time; however everything was a snap, once that was completed. Note: Even using the "less sugar" recipe, the "eating" cherries made this jam too sweet for my taste - but will be fine for those who prefer a sweeter jam. I kept a watchful eye on the "FreshTECH," and was a little concerned about a couple of things: 1) the stirrer just "pushed" the fruit around (normal), and 2) sugar clung to the center of the stirrer (also normal). Once that thing starts cooking, EVERYTHING gets blended very nicely. As an aside: Although I have ordered some canning supplies (from Amazon, of course), most of what I needed for this first batch of jam I already had on hand. My old RevereWare stew pot (in the kitchen sink, filled with hot, HOT water) heated the 4 oz. jars nicely. There is one thing about which I am concerned: The knob on the lid does NOT stay tight. I plan on keeping a VERY close eye on this (possible) flaw. The recipe book (included), while very nice, is difficult to read (small print and light font color). I've already decided to scan and print it - so that my TOTAL jam-making experience will be enjoyable. Do check out the additional recipes at the Ball web site. There is a jam that uses champagne - which is now on my grocery list. I found it impossible to keep from "licking" the jam remains in the maker - and finally just had to tell myself "NO!!!" Huckleberry season is in full swing, and that will be my next batch of jam.....or should I say "batches" - because I intend to make all three types: refrigerator, freezer, AND canned. Yes - I like huckleberries. Honestly, I didn't think I would ever "love" an appliance as much as my Zojirushi Bread Maker Zojirushi BB-PAC20 Home Bakery Virtuoso Breadmaker 120 Volts . However, after one use, this little jam and jelly maker is a close second. Homemade bread, covered with homemade jam............does it get any better than that?????

Incredibly versatile, makes canning and sautéing simple
This is the best purchase I've made since I bought my Kitchenaid mixer and my Vitamix. I am using it for much more than must jam and jelly! Not only does it make perfect jam and jelly, but last week I put in nine diced onions + 2T olive oil and it stirred it for the thirty minutes without burning. I then had perfectly sautéed diced onions. Then I made a peparade recipe where you sautee thinly sliced red, yellow and orange peppers with diced onions, olive oil, and a large can of diced tomatoes plus spices. It stirred it perfectly, cooked it down to an amazingly flavored side dish. I have found it easy to find jam and jelly recipes that will work in this too without following the book's recipes exactly. For instance, we use no sugar needed pectin so then we can only add 3/4 cup sugar and top up the sweetness using splenda. Oh, and it beeps to tell you when to add the sugar! It works great, thickens perfectly and sets like a dream. You can set the time for anything from 1-30 minutes. For other recipes like sautéing stuff, if you need to go longer than 30 minutes, just let the appliance cool for a few minutes then you can reprogram it for up to 30 minutes again. BEST BUY EVER!!

Love this jam maker
Ever since I tried homemade preserves and jams, I've always wanted to make my own. However, I couldn't be bothered with all the equipment, timing and procedures needed to make your own jam and preserves. This little gadget has caught my attention when it first appeared on Amazon but I couldn't justify the cost of purchasing one since I didn't know how often I would use it. It was recently on sale and the price was low enough for me to pull the trigger and get one. This Ball FreshTECH jam and jelly maker is a hoot to use. It takes out all the guesswork needed to make jams and jellies. All you have to do is wait for the beeps to add stuff in. It takes care of the cooking and stirring so you don't end up with a mess all over stove. Overflows are an issue with jam and jelly making but this unit eliminates it by constantly stirring the concoction until it's ready to go in your jars. You need to make sure you don't overload past the manufacturer's recommendation. The clean up is simple and fast (unless it overflows). The biggest issue I read is the capacity. It makes around 4 cups of jam; not nearly enough for the serious jammers (?). Wonder why they haven't come out with a larger capacity model since this seems to be very popular. For my own family, the amount is perfect. Just enough so they don't get tired of the same flavor. I am going to try and see if I can actually preserve my next batch to be shelf stable. The instruction booklet that comes with the unit is very informative and tells you exactly how much pectin, sugar and fruit to add. Just about foolproof. I can do it anyone can. This unit is not really a one trick pony. You can use it to make spaghetti sauce; just about anything that requires cooking and stirring. Once you try homemade jams and jelly, there is no going back to the commercial stuff.
