Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory, Bk 2

I’m back in music and a whole new world has opened up with Alfred’s Essentials of Music Theory. This book answers the how, when and why of playing music as it is easily explained.

We end-up having to homeschool during the pandemic, and I gave hubby the job of teaching music theory to our daughter who takes Zoom piano lessons. They are now on book two (started in September, doing once/week). They love the book. (We got teacher versions too.) Hubby is learning, and they listen on the web to the examples, and it's a great way to "kill" an hour of school/week. I have no idea what a terpsichord is, but my 12 y/o daughter does, and she can explain it to you.

Beware. This is a pretty great series except they teach that the values of a whole rest and a whole note can vary (eg. a whole note can equal three beats if the time signature designates three beats in a measure). Just like the half note/rest, they don’t recalibrate based on the length of the measure.

This is a great book for anyone to use especially children. My daughters understanding of music has been helped greatly by following along. Its not just about playing the notes. The way its presented is very helpful for any age. You should get this book- it will greatly help you or your children.

This theory book is so well organized and ideal for the high school students I teach. It helps me break down theory into manageable pieces. Love these books SO much!
