A wonderful book on woodcock shooting by all accounts
A wonderful book on woodcock shooting by all accounts. The original edition was a privately printed edition of only 100 copies. Mine was of a leather bound, limited edition reprint (#588 or 3000). The book contains period photographs and artwork. Edmund W. Davis was a man of independent means, sportsman and angler. He also wrote a book on salmon fishing "Salmon-Fishing on the Grand Cascapedia" . Davis is part and parcel of the fishing culture of Quebec in the late 1900's. Accounts of his life (and death) are as follows: http://gaspesie.quebecheritageweb.com/article/mysterious-death-fisherman-grand-cascapedia-river and http://www.academia.edu/10324897/Edmund_W._Davis_Salmon-Fishing_on_the_Grand_Cascapedia_1904_

The pictures for this book look like they were copied from the original using a very low quality scanner. Text is great though.

Woodcock Shooting
Very good book. The reader gets a feel for the era that the book was written in. The language used in those days and the knowledge about woodcock is very entertaining. It reads like a poem

Nice for Collectors but not a great "how to" book
This book was written many years ago and is a nice addition to my collection but I wouldn't consider it to be a book that would quickly set you on the path of woodcock hunting success. When I read the reviews someone suggested it read like a poem and I didn't fully understand that, but it truly is written like a poem. It is almost as if it is fiction. I like books that hit you with the facts and this one does not do that.
